I would pick Briggs to KO Wepner or Evangelista. Ali had some fits with these guys. Neither Wepner nor Evandelista would win a round vs Vitali, and unlike Ali, Vitali would stop them both.

Because I like you for entertainment and lighthearted humor. Once you start cussing I'd expect all hell to break loose. It's like the court jester on crack... I don't know what I'm saying. It just seemed out of character, BE.

didn't he also fight Sam Peter, Chris Arreola, and Juan Carlos Gomez back to back? in today's HW landscape thats about as close as it gets to credible world class fighters.

I also think he got fits from the ref not calling Wepner on rabbit punches.

I think I get the reasoning here.

By the time Vitali does fight a credible world class fighter, this thread will be the requisite age to be deemed classic (that is to say 20 years from now, when Vitali makes his ATG 6th comeback at the age of 59 to slap the sass out of young IBA champion Lehkei Mayweather)

This is biased personal opinion ,not supported by actual fact

    As such it is worthless.

The point, which appears to have escaped you ,is that both Wepner and Evangelista,[not Evandelista],were both rated in the top 10 , when they challenged for the title.
    Briggs was not .

    Kirk Johnson #8
    Corrie Sanders #3
Pretty sure Danny Williams briefly got in the rankings after the Tyson win
    Samuel Peter #2
    Juan Carlos Gomez #9
    Cristobel Arreola#7

So of his last 9 opponents, about 6 were ranked. Well short of his brother and Lewis, but really not bad for the 00s. Ruiz and Byrd are not far behind. Vitali's resume also deserves a little slack since he turned pro at 25, was brought up slowly, and lost 4 years of his prime to injuries.

I did Wlad a while back. I think Wlad is about 8 or 10-0 against ranked fighters. Going by Ring Annual Rankings I can say that McCline, Byrd II, Brock, Brewster II, Sultan, Thompson, Chageav, and Chambers were all top 10. 3 being top 5.

I'm not certain of Byrd's ranking when Wlad beat him the first time, but he was coming off a win over #7 Vitali. Samuel Peter enters the annual rankings at #9 the year Wlad beat him. So he was probably ranked as well.

Unforunately, all three of Wlad's loses came to opponents who were not recongized as top 10 in the world going into the fight. Brewster and Sanders would only enter the rankings after defeating Wlad.

For the hell of it: By my count, the only heavies in the last 10 years with more than one top 5 win.

    2000-2010 Top 5 Wins

    Lennox Lewis 4
    Wladimir Klitschko 3
    Samuel Peter 3
    Vitali Klitschko 2
    John Ruiz 2
    Chris Byrd 2
    Nikolai Valuev 2

Superior as Wlad has been, there is a way to go to reach the 35-40 wins Louis and Ali have respectively against ranked fighters.

Archie Moore had power and technique. He beat most of the big guys of his day and would put more pressure on Vitali than Byrd did and could be crafty.

Archie beat ALL of the top Big Men of his era and although I think he would be at a serious disadvantage vs Vitali I would not undermine him or be surprised if Archie beat him or dropped him. Archie is a different caliber than Danny Williams, Sam Peter,Chris Areola, or the last 2 defenses. Shannon Briggs on the other hand still has power, a strong chin speed and experience compared to the fore-mentioned
