Larry Merchant vs Roy Jones jr: The Fight

I'm coming at it from the Merchant Hop thread. I have no problem with this post fight interview. I do think Merchant could show more respec to all interviewed, though.

 

Yes he beat Michalczewski debateably when Dariusz was past his prime, but Gonzalez lost in his next fight to Zsolt Erdei who Jones, Tarver, Cloud, Campillo, Dawson and many others avoided

 

I read his book, and Im Irish he collapsed in sparring he pulled from the calz fight cause of docs advice

I didnt even know he wrote a bio- found it in a charity shop but obviously he wanted Jones first

I call it a draw..Same with the BHOp interview both were having fun unlike Floyd who almost cried. Jones would have wiped the floor with those guys in his prime all in one night so he's right to get all riled up. But Larry had to ask them questions.

Well, Roy DID fight Reggie Johnson next. And still, he doesn't fight no one. It's always like that, fighters fight who they're asked to fight, and then they're still not fighting who they should be fighting.

 

This is ATG truth. Anyone who picks against a prime Jones is kidding themselves. He made EVERYONE he fought look like ****. If he was fighting all great fighters, then they would've looked slightly less like ****. But beating Jones in his prime was a riddle no one came even close to solving.

 

Mayweather was once accused of duckign BAldomir and HAtton because he fought Judah. It never ends.

 

Anyone who seriously thinks Michalczewski could have beaten Jones at this point is a clown. If Jones had fought him, he would've spanked him in just the same manner. Then he'd be another guy the haters would point to today, saying Jones didn't fight anyone but Eurobums and cab drivers.

 

Oh yes, I'm well aware. He wasn't fighting the "true" WW champ in Baldo cuz he took on Judah. Hatton would maul him and break his ribs. He would never get within 100 feet of Mosley. It's hard to believe that a fighter who grants an immediate rematch after coming away from his toughest win is a ducker who refuses a challenge.

Kinda crazy watching how Roy use to be Load mouth talking trash, well its safe to say he cant back it up anymore.
