Lesnar again looked very mentally weak to me again panicing and stumbling around the cage as soon as he was under pressure, not since Sapp in K1 have I seen that kind of thing from a supposidly top level fighter. This fight pretty much backed up what many were saying after the Carwin match.
I find it so saddening when a great athlete gets a defeat and everyone jumps on the overrated thing. Where do you expect a pro wrestler with 5/6 wins and already holding the champion, beating people in dominant fashion, should be rated? It's silly.
I'm pretty sure I've gone on record here saying Cain Velasquez was better than Shane Carwin way back. I like Cain a lot, but he isn't suddenly the best HW in the world because of this win. He's simply exposed Brock for what he is - an athletic big man who can wrestle and beat a lot of mediocre-to-good fighters based on his strength but who will lose to top-shelf strikers. It's important to strike a balance here of giving Velasquez due credit for dominating, and also not getting out of hand and buying into him having just beaten "the man". He's now "the man" at heavyweight in the UFC - not the sport at large.
No excuses, dude. There were people in this very forum picking him to go through Fedor like a knife through butter, you know it.
I agree most of the time but in this case its really true, Lesnar was hyped as the best HW in the world(by the UFC, many jurno's and fans) and has looked nothing close to that in his last two matches. The guys an athletic beast but he really does look like the MMA Sapp to me, technically limated and mentally weak.
Of his two best wins out of those 5, one was old and grossly outsized and the other one also holds a win over him. He was kind of fast-tracked to a gimme title shot and his first two defenses were not exactly the best heavyweights in the world (and one almost beat him). He deserved respect for hanging with much more experienced name fighters so early in his development. What he did not deserve was to be crowned "the best in the sport" - yet he was (hence overrated).
A far as expereince goes Lesnar isnt exactly a newbie, he started training in early 2006 afterall. His early progress was pretty impressive but I don't think he's advanced much from there and again looks incredabley mentally weak.
That beginner at MMA excuse can only get you so far and can only be used so many times. Everyone hyped this guy up to be the best HW in the planet and the baddest man in the planet..................Brock didnt earn this tag. Dana and Zuffa stole it from a guy who rightfully earnt it and worked for it for over 10 years. Zuffa Zombies fell for it hooked line and sinker...........as ive said many times, the only worthy HW in the UFC is JDS.
Brocks whole plan seemed to be take Cain down and ground and pound, as soon as he seen he couldn't hold him down like he had done with others in the past he had no plan B and looked to have mentally went in to panic mode.
Except Coleman fought better and was a far supperior wrestler and ground fighter. Its saddening when a worthy and proven (over a 10 year span) athlete gets taken out of the top spot and replaced by an inexperienced and proven fighter who was given gimme fights. Randy = should be in LHW, retired, had a long layoff, and beaten many times; Carwin = inexperience without cardio; Herring = should have been retired and lost the fire. There are many other more worthy athletes and fighters that deserve the $$$ and extra exposure.
Lesnar made his debut in 2007, over three years ago. Wrestlers like Randy, Coleman, Kerr, Randleman, Hendo etc rose to the top just as if not more quickly and like alot of those guys I think Lesnar advanced as much as he's ever going to in the first year or two. 3 years fighting is more time than it took Nog to become Pride champ, more time than it took Fedor to take the belt from him, more time than it took Shogun to win the 2005 GP etc.
I loved Lesnar pushing the cop out of the way, if the cop had pushed him back he'd probabley have run back down the tunnel.
Lesnar has been in the sport long enough to be experienced enough, its his and his managements fault if he only had a handful of fights in that time. Look at how many fights Fedor fought early in his career. Before this fight, Dana was even hyping Brock up as the best HW in the world and possibly the best HW fighter EVER!!!!!!!! Well Dana, your idiotic prediction have once again proven wrong.
