Nice moment for combat sports, apparently they measured Velasquez' punch at 2,300 lbs or something during one of those fight science docos. That's some real power.
It's a tall, tall order. Nishioka is a rightful favorite. Of course, we've already seen one title change hands in an upset tonight. :bbb
It's been a year of epic upsets for MMA. Fedor, Machida, Mousasi, Penn, Lesnar, all went downhill. Silva was 2 minutes away from joining that group. Crazy. I don't remember a time when so many elites lost in the same year. Fun to watch though.
brock looked impressive leading into the fight but velasquez showed up with his A game and battered brock. skill prevailed
Tim Sylvia is a completely different person from Anderson Silva. :yep Sylvia, a super-heavyweight, lost to Mercer last year (at which point he was far removed from his days as an "elite"). Silva, who started at MMA's version of welterweight and now campaigns at both middleweight and light heavyweight has spent most of the last few years in most p4p top-3 lists (at the #1 spot on most) where he remains to this day.
And people bash boxing for the lack of technical skill at the heavyweight level. I don't care how much mma fans want to say "skill, skill, skill".... these heavyweight fights are little more than sloppy brawls. Not that there's anything wrong with that - but come on.....
It was a huge win in a historical context... but for three years everyone has said that Cain is the future of MMA... so I guess the Future is Now!
Good performance by Velasquez but Brock has looked weak as **** since his diverticulitis condition had him in critical condition and losing upwards of 50lbs.
Brock has now been down more times than West Bromwich Albion, yet another Yank Heavyweight embarressment.
