R12 Haha! Great last round! Munroe comes out firing and catches Nishioka with a good amount of clean punches, but the champ responds with a huge combination. Munroe works well following that but Nishioka stunds him with a combination of 10-12 punches. Munroe survives, what an effort, but that got one round for him on my card. Nishioka 119-109

No surprise. UD all three judges see it 119-110 in favor of Nishioka.

And the official scores are: (the same as mine) 3 x 119-109

Munroe was severly outclassed and dismanled by speed and movement and got punished badly to the body, but respect to the challenger, not many would've survived not one but four scary moments against the Japanese power puncher. Nishioka is showing his age, but too much of a class difference tonight, he dominated once he got into his comfort zone.

And STILL the WBC Super Bantamweigth World Champion - Toshiaki Nishioka!

Toshiaki Nishioka outclasses a brave Rendall Munroe in 12 punishing rounds

The no1 Japanese fighter today, Toshiaki Nishioka retained the WBC SBW belt in dominating fashion, winning all but 1 round vs. brave British challenger Rendall Munroe. The fight started competitive with Nishioka boxing on the foot and Munroe working from the middle of the ring. Toshiaki did enough to take the first 3, but it looked like he's in a tough fight as he seemed to tire and Munroe stepped on the gas to take the round bigtime. At that point it looked like we've got a nice competitive fight in our hands, but the champion himself switched to a higher gear and stunned the challenger with a flush left hand, and never looked back. Munroe couldn't find target as Nishoka boxed beutifully on move and started to wear Rendall down with punishing body shots, ladning almost at will as he stunned the challenger both in round 7 and 10. Munroe came out with his fists flying in the very exciting final round and caught Nishioka with a good amount of punches, but the champ responded with lighting fast flurries to once again stun his challenger, who survived. Brave effort by Munroe, and his supreme conditioning and chin prevented Nishioka to get his 4th stoppage win in the row, but it was a dominating performance notheless. On the other hand, at 34yo, the champ often looked winded and to be honest, a bit past his best, but over 12 punishing rounds, he remains the WBA SBW champion and the no1 guy in the division. Nice fight and great effort by both.

IMO zero. Japanese champions do not unify. Hasegawa skipped the division because he didn't want to face his buddy Nishioka so Japan would have one more champ if he's successful at 126. Not sure that a unification would deserve The Ring belt anyway, Nishioka and Lee are no1 and 2, but Vazquez Jr. is not someone to overlook, and Rigondeaux is fighting for an interim belt in a month. They should all unify with the last man standing crowned with the legit champ.

Munroe can come again and beat Molitor. I hope he doesn't disappear after that.

It was an absorbing fight, I have never seen Nishioka before but I was really impressed with his Mexican-like body punching. He boxed beautifully, showed his experience and just broke down his opponent. Apparently, according to the Sky Sports commentators, he chose to box more off of the back foot than normal and perhaps that was not something that Monroe was expecting.
I scored it 119-109 as well.

Good fight, I wanted Munroe to win badly but it was just a bridge too far. In the first half he was causing Nishioka problems and I think Munroe showed he deserves to be right up there. If he'd fought the version of Molitor that Jason Booth faced he probably would be world champion imo.

Nishioka really needs to work on his defence -- got tagged quite a few times, especially with the jab.

Aside from that, he looked great. Nice movement around the ring, quick hands and feet, and he really gave his all in the championship rounds, especially the last one, where he just unloaded huge combinations. Best of all, his body punching was LOVELY. It's so rare to see a consistent body puncher...really nice to watch it.

It's a fight definitely worth watching, especially the last round that was pretty awesome.
