Why did Mosley choose to fight Mora, was it simply Shane doing what he's always done, taken on anyone irrespective of style advantages/disadvantages, or!, and here comes the conspiracy theory, is it that Shane thought he would beat Mora, but that he might not look particularly impressive doing it, so maybe could secure a fight with a top level fighter who perceives him to be damaged goods, ready to be taken? I mean I just dont get it, why would you, after the Mayweather fight, comeback against someone like Mora? a guy who you KNOW, whether you win or not, is going to at the least make you look bad, upset your rhythm, I especially dont get it when in theory, you would of thought he wanted to prove to the world that the Mayweather fight was an aberration, that he actually wasn't done. I have heard some say that Mosley had many quite a few bad career decisions, what are your thoughts?:thumbsup
I think you might be pulling a really long bow with the conspiracy theory there. I must admit I was surprised to hear him jump from welter to middleweight, but I think he was trying to make a statement that he can move up weight classes with ease (ala Pacquiao), rather than try and pretend he was vulnerable. On paper this was meant to be an easy win for Mosley: He should have been able to build his confidence back up by KO a defensive fighter.
I agree an easy win in terms of, he would most probably win, but an easy opponent to make a statement, look good against ? that is what baffles me.
first it was JMW and second a lot of people thought that he was going to lose this match because Mora has such a bad stile for him
The idea came up by Schaefer and Gomez, not by Shane. Since Top Rank shut the doors on Mosley and Golden Boy turned down Sergio Martinez for the World MW Championship at 155(!) lbs, they simply followed the Bob Arum recipe and made the biggest in-house fight for Mosley possible. Bad choice of styles and honestly, Mosley looked horrible and lost my some margin. There was a huge disparity in clean effective punching, Mosley was aggressive without success while Mora found a way to sneak in a lot of shots round after round. It was an ugly fight and bad for boxing, but the dumb idiotic HBO team and the manipulated Compubox stats made it look like Mosley was winning somehow, when in reality, sweet ****ing science got the better of him. Even dumber than the HBO team were those writers who had Mosley winning clearly. The only thing clear in the fight was the difference in quality punches landing, in favor of Mora.
I thought this was a horrible fight for Mosley. To me, he's never looked as good when he fights at 154 - combine that with an opponent who was clearly going to make him look bad and you have a recipe for disaster. What makes it even stranger was it's timing. Coming off the loss to Floyd, he should have fought someone who's style matched-up well with his, so he could win and, just as importantly, loog good. The fight made no sense to me when I first heard of it and I honestly can't believe anyone thought this was a good career move for Shane. Terrible match-making by Golden Boy.
I personally feel Mosley believed Mora was gonna be a walk in the park. (Tune-Up) **** backfired on him, Turned into a "He is shot" kind of a deal. That said, **** a Mora rematch. I say they position Mosley for the Williams/Martinez winner, Maybe Cotto II? @ '54
As noted above, Mosley's always had terrible matchmaking. Mosley's a fighter, he'll fight absolutely anyone under any circumstances and his team seems to make no effort to get him fights where he can excel.
