Robinson's ducking/avoiding of the Black Murderers Row is overstated IMO. Most of them weren't even campaigning in the same division, especially when Ray had the title.

The Burley situation came when both guys were contenders and they fought on that card in the Midwest. Robinson priced himself out, but Burley didn't blame him and said he would've done the same thing.

Marshall was a middleweight and then a light-heavyweight. By the time Robinson was a MW champ, Marshall was a LHW, and retired a few months after Robinson-Lamotta 6.

Williams likewise was a middleweight and his career had been over for a couple years by the time Robinson was the MW champ.

Robinson avoiding Burley and Cocoa Kid have much more merit than him avoiding the much larger Williams, Marshall, and Bivins.

Bivins was largely a light-heavyweight, where Robinson only fought for the title once (and weighed in as a MW). Bivins fought as a MW very early in his career in 1940, when Robinson was a lightweight starting out his career.

 

You all prove your short term memories... The two biggest ducks of all time were Jack Johnson's refusal to give Sam Langford a title shot and the biggest duck of all time was Jack Dempsey, who refused to fight the overqualified and black Harry Wills. Def the two biggest ducks, in my opinion.

 

I blame Dempsey at first for avoiding Wills, but not later on. He did sign to fight Wills, but Rickard cancelled it.

when you get up to the elite status...the top dog or one of the top dogs, money earners, ticket sellers ect.....the boxer calls the shots....if a fight doesnt happen and people talk about it for over a year or years....its a duck.....behind closed doors or not, theres a point where someone says "im not fighting that guy, because i would rather fight guys that i know i can beat...not ones im not sure about"

I'm sure you are fan of boxing like many, but you really have to consider going back to the drawing board or even a complete brain reset. Of course, this is just a suggestion.
