Rendall lacks the intelligence and power to make it at top level. I'm not even sure he beats Molitor.

He gave it his all though, can't fault him for that.

Dunne lacked power and a chin but he was a bit of a wizard technically. Munroe is fairly one dimensional and Dunne would have worked him out without a doubt.

Munroe's pressure style and stamina makes up for his lack of skill and this means a fight with Dunne would have been close.

I would say their achievements are fairly similar.

Looking at Dunne in interviews following the Poonsawat fight and even now he looks to be a bit glassy eyed. The Cordoba and Poonsawat fights took their toll. Munroe has never taken a bad beating or been in a live or die fight like Dunne has so maybe he can come back.

Munroe's lack of power is his biggest problem. He landed some good shots today but Nish walked through them. Knowing your opponent can't hurt you is a real confidence booster.

Hmmm... I'm not sure about that. He was gifted and quite disciplined, but his defence was pourous and he had a tendency of not showing up. He made some fights a lot harder than they should have been.

Which fights were these? You cannot deny that Dunne is technically head and shoulders above Munroe. The difference in their skill level is like night and day. Munroe's defense is also porous and Dunne has more pop in his punches and more speed, the only advantages Munroe would have are chin and toughness but those attributes only get you so far.

Dunne had a decent amount of power

For the division, he was a good puncher

I recall I picked Dunne to beat Munroe if they'd met, but there's no doubting Dunne didn't like pressure. I know you're defensive about your boy, but it's just my observation.

Dunne was clearly more versatile, but let's not pretend he was Charles Burley all of a sudden.

Coming from one of the biggest Haye nuthuggers on this forum  Dunne was technically very good, if he was British he wouldn't get half as much criticism.

:admin Have you seen the way some of my fellow brits talk about brit fighters?
Betty and Scurla on Hatton for example.

I agree that Dunne was too easy to hit but he had a fantastic range of punches from all angles and he moved very well. He was techically a very good fighter in my view and would have done better than Munroe in todays fight, of course one quality punch could take Dunne out.

I reckon Dunne was finished after Cordoba and left whatever was left of his career in that ring that night. The Poonsawat fight was his Manny v Hatton and it shouldn't be solely used to beat down his whole career. He had the Kiko loss but he was a good Euro level fighter.

Dunne's technical ability was good but I think it gets overstated. If Dunne was so technically superior to Munroe, how come Monroe decisioned Kiko and Dunne walked onto haymakers and got stopped in the first by Kiko. If Dunne was as good technically, surely he would have lasted longer with Poonsawat., i.e. hit and move....

Although it would have been close, I suspect Munroe would have been too strong and would have outworked Dunne.

You're right Gasman, Munroe is better than Dunne technically because he decisioned Kiko when Dunne lost to him, that's how it works :patsch
Dunne didn't last long with either Kiko or Poonsawat because they are big punchers who could walk him down and get to his chin.

It's worth noting that Munroe got to where he is mostly because of his strength, toughness and chin. Dunne reached a higher level despite his lack of toughness and chin, how did he manage this if he wasn't superior technically?

If you read my post properly, I said Dunne's technical wizardry is over stated, I did not claim that Munroe's was better. Rather, I offered two examples were his alleged technical prowess was found wanting. Simple points really.

And, I went on to say that I suspect Munroe would be too strong and would outwork Dunne in a close fight. :good

Fair enough, but I would say you offered two examples where his chin was found wanting, not his technical ability. We'll have to agree to disagree on the last point. I think Rendall himself knew how risky a fight with Dunne would have been which is why he turned down a career high payday to fight him ;)

I think that would be best - I cant see us finding a middle ground:lol:

PS. didnt Maloney offer 150k for Munroe v Dunne after the Cordoba fight?
