shavers vs maxie= two sledge hammer right handers and landers max is fighting not preening to the crowd and is serious so is shavers. buddy stalks the smaller shavers and slaps him around a little then shavers strikes and its all over for buddy. thats my opinion of these two fights.
I think Shavers has a real live chance here. Of course, Buddy could have finished him just as quickly, but I think Earnie faced some guys through out his career who might have been a bit better. His distance losses with Holmes and Ali, along with KO wins over Norton, Williams, and Ellis give me more to work with than some of Buddy's fights. Could go either way, but I'm leaning toward shavers.
I think that Shavers would likley loose to both of them, though he has a good chance against Baer jr.
Shavers way too inconsistent for me, but he would probably beat Baer. Max I don't think so since he had a great chin and had a very good punch himself.
I think we all know the deal with Max or Earnie, but Buddy Baer is the figure of this thread who leaves some room for interpretation. In some ways he is the Shannon Briggs figure of his era. He has a record of first round knockouts that only a handfull of heavyweights have ever surpassed, but a relativley thin resume at the elite level. He put Abe Simon away faster than Joe Louis and was the only person to stop him apart from the bomber himself and the murderous puncher Lem Franklin. It is also worth noting that all of Tony Gallento's stopages were by cuts except those he sustained to Joe Louis and the Baer brothers. I submit that Buddys power was up there with his brothers, but that his durability was not. Virtualy anybody can get stoped by Joe Louis but he also suffered a TKO stopage by Gunnar Barlund. Barlund was a good fighter so that dosnt necesarily mean that his durability was bad. When you combine Buddy Baers power with his height, range, and fairly good textbook skills, you have a fighter who is going to be a dangerous proposition for any stand up puncher with a questionable chin. http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=EP19380307.2.88 Picture of Baer Barlund This content is protected
Shavers all wrong against Max, who had a solid chin and a great right hand and solid hook, Earnie always a danger but I would not bet against Max here....Buddy a horse of a different color but would still favor him over Earnie but would not be stunned if Shavers pulls it off vs Buddy....Still I go with the Baer's vs the Acorn
