Egan did well in the olympics. He beat Jeffries very very easily... looked like a bit of a mismatch actually. He has a good enough style for the pro game and would earn quite a bit of money filling out the O2 in Dublin. The chap could be a millionaire within a few years... lets face it, he's not pulling in a huge amount of money at the moment in the amatuer game. Well, not as much as he would as a pro. He is getting older as well. By the time 2012 olympics are over, he might be too old for the pro game (it would take a few years to acclimitise to the pro game). Is Egan wasting his talents?
He thought about turning pro after the 2008 olympics but he thought it was best to stay amateur in the end. He might have regretted it since then though, hes probably a bit too old for the pro game now
I don't think Kenny is interested in turning pro, he got a lot of offers after Beijing but chose to stay where he is. Amateur pedigree doesn't always translate into success in the pro game and I for one think he made the right decision.
Some people just don't have ambitions to become a pro boxer, lets face it, it's a hard life. Maybe he's put off by the long term damage that can be inflicted on your brain by a pro career in comparison to a career in amateur boxing. He also is probably on steady funding. Maybe he's looking out for his family, after all people die in the professional ring.
well it was very strange but he was doing some exhibition/amateur fights i guess unlicensed boxing on the fragomeni undercard a years back. he looked good but he didn't seem to be like a pro. as boxing enthusiasts we always think going pro and being a world champion is the epitome but when your the best am in your division in the world why break out of it and go pro. it could be detrimental. i guess don't get ahead of yourself. peter richardson, well respected brit amateur, fantastic skills set and a incredible jab. but was a poor pro. beat some big names in the vested ranks. or even toncho tonchev, a good boxer, had a decent punch and an alright chin and good skill set and stamina.....but.....nothing comes of it. he could of stayed amateur ranks and been a bulgarian star like france had jerome thomas.
Cammarelle is also an officer for the Italian State Police. So he earns a decent living, no need to go pro.
exactly he is getting payed to do this. in that sense he is a professional. if he even wants to he can do it later on when he reaches retirement age which is......35 or 34?:huh.guys can fight on for longer it seems and make a bit of money else where.
It does seem strange though especially in ireland where they are dying to get behind their talent. there is a history of very good ams not turning pro even in the Uk look at Neil Perkins world amateur bronze at welter ABA title numerous other medals in major tournaments but never turned over
I remember seeing an Italian poster on here say he gets 100 thousand euros a month from the Italian govt. Sounds like a huge amount, but ive seen elsewhere that he gets paid a fortune by the govt. That wage, plus his money from endorsements and his salary, would be enough make turning pro not such an attractive proposition.
