I've sparred with a few pros over the years... Based on their pro records, all but one of them would surely be written off as flat out "bums" by the typical keyboard warrior. But stepping in with these guys makes you realize how tough and skilled some of those so-called "bums" can be compared to an average novice. Try it sometime, and I bet you won't be so quick to slag any fighter.
Your absolutely right, but there are those gyms that have those infamous gym wars. I have been in some. It's not cool for the boxer who is trying to learn.
Teddy sounds dumb because he's emotional, he says many things strictly for shock value and he's got a VERY thick accent but Atlas is not dumb.
I made the mistake of sparring Jorge Amparo (sp?) a few times @ the Golden Gloves gym in Vegas in the old days...even though he didn't accomplish much as a pro, he was quite the "gym fighter". Between him and Isreal Cole (sp?), I got more than a few cracked ribs.
Got the better of several pros in sparring then got my ass whipped by US Army amateur champion one week later....! Decided to finish my Degree...
yeah back in 80' I been at the same gym as Mike. I remember seeing his on the bag. I was a complete amateur yellow newb back then 22 years old or so. We did 2 rounds for run, Mike went serious I got an uppercut and had to go to hospital. My neck is still hurting, I lost 3 front teeth. He was younger than me but so powerful... Mike invited me on his fights later on, great great man. ahhhhh old times. But I'm fine, really. :happy:happy
Lee Haskins- British and Commenwealth champion He was so much faster than me it was untrue. I honestly thought i could make the cut and become pro until i sparred with him because i got nailed. Not so much physically hurt i was just getting so frustrated in there with his handspeed that it was making me do stupid things i dont normally do. Since then i had to have had a 1 year break and im gonna get back into it after christmas as im still only 23.
I thought he fought out of Brooklyn? Man, that must have been a long time ago, didn't he retire in the early 80's? How good did you personally think Rosenblatt was? How do you think a session would have gone? I grew up in Malden but moved to Foxboro when I was 10, but always rooted for Rosenblatt.
A few times, they took it really easy on me. Chad Van Sickle once hit me with a hook and I couldnt hear out of an ear for a few minutes. When I was young I sparred Brian Camechis (dude that lost to Lemeiux on fnf and got blown out by Saul Alvarez). I was cocky, hit him with a 1-2 and then he proceeded to beat the dog **** out of me. I lasted a good 45 seconds.
