Virtually 16 years to the day (October 23rd 1994), what is your picks on the show that never was?

    Herbie Hide/Tommy Morrison
    Rafael Ruelas/Billy Schwer
    Steve Collins/Lonnie Bradley
    Zack Padilla/Ross Hale
    Frank Bruno/Ray Mercer

I'll come back to you on the rest but I think Morrison's left hook would have cataclysmically destroyed Hide.

Likewise I too think Morrison knocks out Hide, but I think Bruno v Mercer could have been a really good fight.

Great thread Booze. Are we picking on what we know now or how the fights stood then?

For some I guess it is only going to be hindsight, but for those who remember it, perhaps it would be fun to know their thoughts as the fights stood then.

Me thinks that was a work; a way to get a new nickname; and get away from the Machine Gunn thing after Rocky. It was carried off because of them both being Morrison's.

He suggested, if I remember rightly, he was Wayne's Great Grand Nephew, which does not seem to make much sense.

Bruno-Mercer would have been interesting. Bruno was probably at his peak under trainer George Francis and would have used his thumping jab and new infighting skills to force a hard-earned decision win. I doubt he would have stopped Mercer.
Collins was due to fight Lonnie Beasley, incidentally, while Padilla-Hale was never a goer because Padilla suffered a brain injury in sparring with Shane Mosley.

Hide had decent movement in those days and would have boxed Morrisons head off.

I think Mercer gets Bruno out of there very late..... assuming he performs as he did against Lewis and Holyfield.
