Yeah, it was a couple of years back, he was down at Brendan Ingle's gym and I went down with a couple of mates and at the end of his workout he was offering free sparring sessions.
I have once but I've sparred way better amateurs than him so it was nothing special. He could crack but was very limited apart from that.
20-pound advantage or not, B, you must be a HELLUVA boxer to get the better of Edwin Viruet, even if he was on life support. In his prime, he was as nifty a boxer as ever put on gloves.
Sparred with a cruiserweight with 4 pro fights at the time. He kicked my ass but I actually managed to counter him a couple of times. Its crazy how relaxed and in controll they are when sparring
I sparred many pros, but the one that stands out is an nabf champ. I can honestly say that I more than held my own, he even told me how impress he was with me. And it wasn't sparring in my gym, it was actual gym wars/ full force till somebody quits type of combat. Really made me feel proud of my self.
I never sparred with a pro, but I do have a good story. When I first went to the local boxing club as a young kid, you had to work your ass off, and keep showing up regularly, before you could spar at all. When I got to the sparring stage the coach put me in easy against another new kid. I was 106 pounder, and the other kid was BIG, at least 125. I whipped his ass with relative ease over 3 rounds. The coach said something like, "That was nice. I want you to do 3 more." Back then we had a local amatuer boxing TV show. Fighting on TV was a big honor. The coach put me in with his best 106 pounder, a kid who had fought on TV several times. I survived the 3 rounds without bleeding to death, but let me aussre you, that's a helluva way to learn that defense matters!
Wow, busted. Some awesome photo work though. The story almost sounded believable until I realized that Mike was like 13 in '80.
the first time i ever sparred a pro i got hungry...hit the gym hard after that for a very long time, somthing about it just motivated me..from then on i tried to "only" spar pros cause you learn a lot more.....
Never sparred with a pro, amateur, or anyone for that matter. I was in a boxing gym for 4 months last year but never made it to sparring. That's great for any of you that have sparred with pros.
