I recently watched Clottey's biggest fights i.e. Cotto, Judah, Margarito. can you have a legitimate discussion about his fight with Pacman without bringing up foul play? I mean, i love both, those guys have given us wars. So how in the heck was that fight so abysmal? Clottey has taken shots from bigger punchers than Manny. Why did he shell up the whole time? Was the speed that scary to him? Anyways, I hope Clottey returns to the fight game (Maybe with Cintron?) because all the fights mentioned above were very entertaining to watch
Clottey just couldn't get his punches off. Pacquiao was too fast and Clottey didn't want to risk getting knocked out.
I would say Zab has a comparable speed /power combination and he didn't pull that ish ******* disclaimer: Only the speed and power of the two is comparable. I know Pacman makes Zab chicken dance
IMO, Clottey must have felt something early that made him respect Manny's power. That is the only real reason I can come up with & a very bad game plan. Pac didn't tire & the rounds just flew bye...
The magnitude of the event is what did him in, imo. Never before had a Clottey fight garnered that much attention, and I don't think he was mentally ready to fight at such a stage. Plus, the Pacquia hype got to him, something that I don't think Margarito will allow to cross his mind. That is why I'm so pumped for this fight!
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzzjpogpn_8[/ame] I posted this earlier, he got brave in the last round and managed to land a few but he was always taking more than he dished out. Pac was doing everything to open him up but he would not have it early on. EDIT: That big screen is ****ing amazing
Clottey threw the fight, plain and simple. However, even if he hadn't tried to throw the fight he still would have lost, so it's moot.
Clottey has an unreal knack for doing just enough to look good losing. I think Pac had more power than he expected, and he was totally baffled by Pac's hand speed. The combination of all the above led to Clottey doing ****-all.
It's pretty obvious, Pac's volume and constant attack didn't allow Clottey to do anything. Margarito is the only one who came close to that volume, but he didn't have Pac's speed or accuracy to fire back in rapid fire combination. Also, being on that big a stage w/ Pac could have had something to do withit too.
I would say Zab doesn't pull combinations as often as Pac, it may be because it gets lost in translation in the corner when Yoel says "work your combinations ahh ugh ahh hargh ahhh! *punches the air*" But really, I don't recall the Judah Clottey fight to clearly but I seem to recall Judah trying 2 punch combinations for the most part. Plus, Clottey got off to a pretty poor start in that fight if I recall correctly but Judah began to fade as usual.
If he threw the fight, why'd Pac throw more punches then he ever had? He obvuiously didn't need to if it was planned.
Clottey backed down against Margarito in the later rounds when Margarito threw an all time record number of punches.
Even in the Margarito fight (and in a lesser degree the Cotto fight) he would have trouble with the volume and just sit with his guard up for a long period of time against the ropes.
All good points boys... If it wasn't thrown, which is sad I even have to say that, I could see the Pacman blitz being too much for Clottey. Dude is a warrior though and nothing of the Pacman fight seemed "Clottey" to me
