So I got hit really hard in the heart today in sparring, and now it hurts like hell to breathe in and cough. Common? Is it nothing but usual soreness, or should I get it checked out?

You dont need to get it checked out, it'll subside. You have cartilage there, it just got a little strained is all. Now if it still really hurts after a while then ask a doctor but I dont see it being a problem.

:good Thanks buddy. I appreciate it. I wasn't worried at first, but then my friends kept worrying me by saying I should get it checked out. I feel a bit better about it now, thanks.

keep ya hands up if your hands is up you shoudent be getting hit in the heart ive sparred pros, top amatures in my state and never got hit there keep your hands up but ive seen people drop there handz n get hit there as you can imagine the sight wasnt pretty........................................but if you have a unique boxing style that leaves you suseceptible to a heart hit work on the double end bag and defense alot after doing that for awhile your reflexes should get fast enough that even if you mess up with your style your eyes or reflexes will save you:thumbsup

Actually, in this particular case, it wasn't a matter of me keeping my hands up. We both threw punches at the same time and his connected first.

You may have a ripped intercostel muscle. If so expect 4-6 weeks out. Sorry bud- if it still hurts tomorrow thats whay you've got.

could have hurt your ribs or the cartilage between them. There is a lot of support tissue around there that can get bruised or damaged.

It feels a bit better today, so that's good. Still hurts to breathe in a bit though.

Maybe when you're dealing with your breathing and heart you should go to a doctor instead of the internet.:deal

 If I truly thought it was life threatening, then I would have gone to the doc.
