True or False: The 33 year old version Roy Jones that beat Glen Kelly and Clinton Woods in 2002 would likely beat any LHW in history. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3T-J5s3KIw[/ame]
:roflatsch False. True or False? Roy Jones has a disgraceful Glass Mandible. Answer: True. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sVMrmTBKlQ[/ame]
Yeah because the light fisted left hook that Tarver caught Roy with would ONLY knock Roy down and NO ONE else with that shot, right?atsch
I don't think so, he was amazing at the time but the level of opposition wasn't the best. His speed for a Light Heavy was freakish but I would take Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Michael Spinks and Bob Foster to beat him. And believe me I'm a massive Jones fan.
No, but he would have beat most of them. I could see him beating Conn, Foster, Tunney, but struggling with Charles, Moore, and Spinks. I could see him beating all of them though also. I dont think that the Jones who fought Kelley and Woods was at his very best though. When he fought Telesco, R. Johnson, Hill, he was pretty unstoppable imo around 2000. That version beats almost anyone.
There are quite a few I pick to beat him through boxing history. One thing is, Roy looks awesome against mediocre competition. He´s one of the best ever against those. But we have no clue how he would do against the real greats while we know how them did against real greats. Thus I can´t pick Jones over them. He didn´t prove he can hang with those guys. Those guys proved they can hang with guys of Jones class. You´ve got to take the proven fighter over the unproven one in my opinion.
I agree and am a big Jones fan myself. I'm about to watch some of his fights on dvd shortly lol. Spinks always found a way to win at light heavyweight, Charles was a monster at the weight, Foster COULD find Jones and stop him, and Moore would give him many problems. It's possible Saad & Qawi could beat Jones too.
That illegal forearm smash could have resulted in instant qualification for Jones. But like a pheonix rising from the ashes, the indefatigable Super Joe Calzaghe rose to his feet to administer a one-sided clinical beatdown. happy
No. Michael Spinks knocks out any version of Jones that was seen at 175lbs, and I'd favor Foster and Charles to do the same. Let's put the opposition in perspective, lads.
A resounding FALSE. A prime Michael Spinks would brutalize a 33 year old Roy Jones at 175. Jones was unbeatable at 168 IMO, but not at 175. If Bob Foster landed clean on Jones at any point, Roy would still be coughing up bits of canvas at his Canastota induction ceremony.
