Or more precisely, my question is...

Which fighters, at which weights, at which times, would have been more accomplished and dangerous opponents than James Toney at MW in 1994?

Collins, Eubank, Benn, a young Calzaghe...

Was anyone on here into boxing at that time? What was the general consensus as to why these fights never got made?

What??? In 1994 Cal was barely getting his feet wet let alone earlier. By the time Calzaghe was even a blimp on the radar screen Roy was firmly enshrined at 175. As far as the others mentioned they had the same opportunities to fight Roy as he did them. The stench of the Olympics was still pretty fresh in Roys mind and traveling for a fight was not a consideration and apparently the others mentioned in this thread were not to fond of travelling either.

I think he fought most of the guys he should have...and some that he shouldn't have.

I gotta say Gman, i think, would have been too much for Jones, also, Nigel Benn I'd have liked to have seen him in there with :)

I think you'll find Collins fought half his career in the states and would have gladly gone stateside for the opportunity and the paycheck.
Nigel Benn won his middleweight title in America and his supermiddleweight title in Italy.
Chris Eubank defended his titles in Portugal, Germany and South Africa.
