The purpose of a weight division is to basically ensuring that only fighters of a certain size fight in it.

And if any smaller fighters wish to box there, they have to accept that their opponent is going to be a lot bigger than them.

It's the whole challenge of boxing. Moving up against bigger and bigger guys.

Paclanders are just asking these questions as they don't want to discuss the truth. Pacquiao's too much of a coward to face bigger guys at their full weights.

"We may as well just abolish them all. Pick a fighter to fight, pick an contracted weight (not "weight class") to fight at and get it on....."

If you did this, the bigger name in the bout would use his "draw" to ensure that the fight happens at the weight he wants it to, to give him the best chance of winning.

You'd constantly have the smaller names, having to make stupid weight demands to get a shot at the best guys.

It's just plain cowardly - catch weights. If you can't handle the size of the guy, fight someone smaller. Don't try and get the credit for beating a guy bigger than you, when you've made him go in lighter than he wants to

I fully agree, but if you can contract a bout at a specific weight, not weight-class, then it makes weight-classes obsolete anyway, other than for titles. So why do they even exist?

And everyone knows how worthless titles are other than for bargaining power, so I won't even go into that.
