Why can no boxer today, adjust to Mayweather?

De La Hoya's combos on the ropes WERE working until he gassed out. I don't mean 'working' in terms of landing solid, damaging punches -- because Floyd was rolling and blocking quite a few -- but they were working in terms of winning rounds on activity, like a sort of suppression tactic. Floyd was expecting him to gas out, though, so it wasn't a question of adapting -- it was part of the plan all along.

 

Floyd doesn't make no adjustments! Everyone just decides to gas out and give the win away to Floyd due to his very likable personality! Zab Judah, Oscar de La Hoya, Shane Mosley, and soon emmanuel pacquiao!

 

Floyd is definitely on another league defensively. It's a beautiful thing to watch IMO.

thats bull****. at this level of boxing fighters dont get paid to lose. how much would they get paid? one million? 5 million? lets say bob arum offers margarito 5 million to take a dive. do u think margarito will take the 5 million to lose when he can make twice that amount by giving pacquiao a rematch? they stand to make so much more by winning. it wouldnt make sense for them to take a dive. if margo or anybody at this level loses it is legit. mosley wanted to win. his hunger is unexplainable.

There's a big difference between planning something and adapting on the spot, in the heat of the moment. I'm not trying to put Floyd down, but it's very clear that he knew Hoya and Judah would gas out, and thus went 'soft' in the early rounds and 'hard' later on. If anything, you could see this as a compliment to Floyd -- he didn't NEED to adapt in the middle of the fight, because he was smart enough to recognise the correct strategy beforehand. He planned it out properly.

[As for proof, after the Judah fight Floyd told Larry Merchant that he 'knew Judah was a frontrunner' and that he would 'gas out', hence the way he fought. In the Hoya match, you can clearly hear Roger telling Floyd between rounds that Hoya would fade down the stretch, as if it was something they had planned in their training camp. Merchant even points this out while the fight is happening, during the live commentary.]

 

in that fight it wouldn't be about adapting...it would've been pressure, pressure and more pressure...punches in bunches from all angles...all punches thrown with force, uppercuts, lead rights, left and right hooks, overhand rights etc etc......

mayweather after the 7th would've started to break down....

Remember how Larry Merchant AZZked Oscar why he stopped throwing the jab? Oscar gave him a I don't know answer, but all Floyd did was his most typical counter, the Mayweather right hand over the jab.

zab judah fight is floyd's clearest example of taking away an opponent's weapons! The southpaw hook, jab, cross, and uppercut all became garbage!

 

I've always appreciated Floyds skills man. As a fan of the sport first and foremost, how can you not? Having said that I also hate him for bringing the sport down rather than using his influence in a positive way to help elevate it to levels of years past.

I have have nothing but admiration for him when he's fighting but only when he's fighting.
