Why can no boxer today, adjust to Mayweather?

We don't have anyone with that kind of talent in this era, save Floyd. He is a victim of his own era.

 

Which is precisely why It does not look good when is reluctant to fight the lesser guys around his weight class.

 

There is not a fighter in and around 147, right now, that has the combination of skills and boxing IQ to dominate Floyd. A few have the talent, and/or size advantage to give him a challenge. But, over 12 rounds they will not shut him down (a KO is of course a possibility in almost any fight), and would most likely be outpointed. Even approaching his mid 30's he's still very, very sharp. Few, in boxing, are as talented as him, or blessed with the type of genetics and pedigree that allow him to do what he does in the ring, at his age, and after 2 years of not fighting.

 

i believe in this statement. honestly, even as a ******* I think he can beat pac convincingly.

the question is, how the **** do we convince him to go up the ring and fight the likes of cotto, williams, pac.

Well...as much as I would like to see each of these matchups, I see the problems that would arise in making each one of these fights happen.

1) Pac - They can't agree on the testing, and perhaps not even the money. Other than that, the fight sells itself. This is, obviously, his best option, right now.

2) Cotto - He was already dominated by Pac. So, that would not be a good look, unless Cotto bounces back AND leaves Top Rank. A win over an injured Foreman just ain't gonna do it, in terms of bouncing back. But, this would be a fairly big event, especially, when the public starts believing in Cotto again. Legacy wise, Floyd would not get full credit for the win though. Cotto is considered (whether some agree or not), not completely shot, but, on the down side of his career.

3) Williams - Floyd would have to carry this event, 100%. You know PW...I know PW....not a lot of other people really do. So, they would have to REALLY hype this to get even close to Hatton like numbers. It's just not the easiest fight to sell to the general public. Williams needs to pick a division and clean it out. That will help his case. He needs to find a way to shed the "most avoided" fighter moniker and become the fighter everyone wants to see.


Amir Khan will get to fight Floyd, before any of these three will, probably. And would it be a HUGE event? Hell yes...

You joke about the JMM, SSM, and Hatton fights. But...all were against P4P ranked and well known fighters, and all were big EVENTS. Obviously, we can debate over age, weight, etc. But, these fights drew quite a bit of attention.

true, hatton fight was hyped because both were undefeated but for those of us who study boxers, that was almost a foregone conclusion, except of course some of the british fans who thought differently.

JMM? posters here were calling that fight a joke and a bloody murder. heck, void can't even honor his word to come in at 144 and came in at 146.

SSM? come on man, we know ssm can bang, 4-5 years ago. most posters here were expecting mosley to lose, he will have his moments sure. but what can you expect from a 38 almost 39 year old fighter.

 

Khan is far from ready to fight Floyd, and they're already building a Mayweather-Khan superfight up in our imaginations. This fight will be greater than a Mayweather-emmanuel fight when it happens.

 

Because Mayweather is not fighting the best fighters in the world?

In short: There are no boxers good enough to do so. I'm not saying that to talk Floyd up, but more to denigrate the state of the sport these days.

 

Mayweather-Khan > Mayweather-emmanuel, when it comes to how big the fights will be. emmanuel's sparring partner has moar personality than he does.

 

I honestly think that boxers may try to make slight gameplan adjustments against him, but his boxing ability is so pure and flawless that their attempts are still inevitably rendered futile

 

1. too early to tell. another first round KO by khan will send his dreams of superstardom goodbye. :rofl

2. i doubt Khan will ever be as great as pac. he has speed but not the ferocity that excites the fans.

3. void is a *****. people want him to fight pac. why is he even considering fighting another british boxer. . . . . . . . .

Look at how much attention Khan is getting at his age. Floyd and emmanuel weren't have all eyes on them when they were 23. If Khan continues to succeed, he'll become a big star. Speaking strictly about star power, Khan doesn't come anywhere close to Mayweather regarding boxing talent.

There are other ways to become popular without having the most exciting style or not being the best. The average person doesn't care much for Floyd's style, but he sells his fights by getting a strong reaction out of people. ODLH wasn't the best of the best, but everyone paid to see him fight.

Khan gets reactions out of people just like Floyd and has that ODLH star quality.
