Pavlik/Pirog/Lemiuex: Weird development

I'm all for it if it means we won't see Pavlik vs Bute.

 

Well, Gennady just won his potential tune-up by third round TKO and defended his WBO European middleweight title.

The opponent had never fought outside of Spain & Portugal.

 

its kinda interesting how everyone from bob arum to the wbo are making plans...or potential plans...for kelly at 160 and kelly has repeatedly said that nothing is certain and this is a big "if." this is how rumors, and the subsequent hate based on those rumors, starts.

first kelly caught a rash of **** over the potential jcc jr fight when that was a wet dream of arum to get not only margo but jcc jr on one card at cowboys stadium. now the wbo want him in a 160 eliminator...

i mean...don't be shy about actually asking the fighter himself what he wants to do.

 

Pirog would beat kelly worse than sergio did, even if he could comfortably make 160. Which he can't. Kelly gave us some good fights, but his career is over pretty much. He's been too far up the boxing ladder to fight on against club fighters, and if slow ass nard can keep kelly of balance what do you think a slippery counter killer like pirog would do.

You guys are still sleeping on pirog. He beats martinez when they meet.

do not be so sure of yourself. i like pirog and he looked good knocking out a guy who was asking for it. jacobs was backing up in a straight line all night before that shot. kelly doesnt back up. he comes forward. and until pirog shows me he can fight off the back foot against a guy of kelly's caliber i have to disagree.

pavlik would have put jacobs through the ropes as well so that's not the best measuring stick. pirog is a slippery guy and has great upper body movement but jacobs wasnt pressuring him at all. he was boxing and backing up.

martinez has been in the ring w/ margo, cintron and williams...pirog fought jacobs. its a big step to think he can duplicate what martinez did considering pavlik was in the martinez fight until the 9th round and i think martinez is much more slippery and slick than pirog.

 

Pirog filets guerrero as quick as he did jacobs. I didn't like what i saw from
guerrero against ishe smith. Pirog would slither up to FG and deliver the
hatchet like he did to danny boy. Jacobs and guerrero are very similar
fighters. Dimitri is in a different class.

 

And you strictly base that of the fact that he's eastern european and you've formed your delusional conclusional based off of that, and have
never seen him fight. They doesn't get pushed back because he spins out
or counters, and yes............even off the back foot. Pirog does it all.

You just make sure not to run and hide when he does what i say he'll do.

 

I don't think he is. Sergio looks off balance alot of times whereas pirog
looks completely grounded and in control at all times. Yes sergio has the experience factor, but not the same natural skill level. And jacobs didn't
move? What fight did you watch? Pavlik's not the same guy he was, and he's always had trouble with movers. Hell, not even fast ones. If martinez beats kelly then i say pirog does too. Same fit diff' fight.

 

jacobs was moving. he's a quick kid and i fully expect jacobs to learn from that experience and come back stronger. but he wasnt moving forward. he was backing up a lot and when he got caught w/ that right hand he was moving in a straight line right back to the ropes. that is a fact.

also, you are right. martinez is a little sloppy with his movement and i did expect pavlik to take better advantage of it. i noted this in the lead up to the fight. and pavlik adjusted well from the beginning of the fight and gave a very good account of himself in the middle rounds and was up on the cards before he hit a wall and sergio cut him to ribbons.

i just don't think pirog would be able to do the same thing. that's not some wierd east european prejudice or anything like that...its just an observation. what i saw him do to jacobs i don't think he could do to kelly b/c jacobs doesnt fight like kelly.

 

Kelly wasn't up in the middle rounds. He lost pretty much every round.
THe KD was bull****. Pav wasn't at 100% in the martinez fight. As for pirog. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that pirog destrys pav. but i do think that he gets off and out enough rounds to take a deserved nod. And i'm talking about a pav that CAN make 160 lbs. Not this alcoholic weight srained version. We'll never see kelly at '60 again. Promise!

 

1. the KD was not a good KD. little bit of a push involved i'll admit.

2. i've been saying for a while that kelly probably won't be at 160 again and that all this talk is just academic. all the talk about all these potential fights has been from either arum or hbo and now the wbo. jack and kelly mentioned pirog, sturm or martinez/williams but that is such a big "if" that its not really realistic to consider it. kelly's knee jerk reaction was that he couldnt do it. then all the talk starts beginning w/ arum's jcc jr talk when kelly was off on vacation with his family.

 

If Fernando Guerrero and Gennady Martirosyan are all that stand in the way of a Pirog vs. Pavlik match, it's all but made.

If Kelly is on this stuck-up "too cool for school" bull**** where he'd turn up his nose at an opportunity to shine in a televised eliminator, then he deserves to be ignored by all the top fighters and toil in obscurity until he retires.

I'm trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and certainly think he has a chance to still be effective at the top level, but the diva **** has to stop. He is not above eliminators. He isn't Manny Pacquiao. They can't all be superfights...that simply isn't who he is.

 

i'm not saying he's above it or anything like that. but he's not getting any younger and it's not going to get any easier for him to make 160. he fights vera and then fights an eliminator some time next year and then fights pirog towards the end of the summer/fall/early winter next year?

kelly will be pushing 30 himself. at some point 160 won't be possible at all. with our without a mackie shilstone type nutritionist.

but an eliminator should not be beneath him if he can do it IB. you are right about that. i just don't think he has time.
