IMHO underachieving or overachieving shouldn't make a blind bit of difference when assessing a career for something like the HOF.

Achievements are achievements. You could even make the case that the overachievers should get more credit for having the mental toughness to make the most out of what they were given.

But Manchester is still in England ;)

Did Hatton ever beat anyone in a hostile atmosphere?:bart

Did Hatton actually beat Collazo? I thought he didn't deserve it myself.

And should the IBO be mentioned?

Look at the gaps in the weight classes. They cannot get anyone to take their title.:D God knows why Wlad still keeps it.

I think that's how i had it, with the knockdown point winning Ricky the fight, might need to rewatch it though. There was a cut that really effected Collazo IIRC.

    Its Hatton at the moment.

But of course Hatton had something like 37 fights against largely mediocre opposition under his belt when he finally took on Tszyu, whereas Haye has only 25 fights under his belt as things stand right now.

Haye still has time to catch up, and although he's not been motoring along recently he's still done a hell of a lot more than most in only 25 fights.

I tend to judge resumes about who the fight fought in general rather than who they beat. Hatton fought not only the best in the division but also the best in the world. Haye hasn't.

Hatton by a country mile. For me, Haye will need to fight both Kilts and perhaps Adamek to surpass Hattons resume

If Haye's career goes as he has intimated - retired in around a year - there's no way he'll match Hatton. Maybe he's blowing smoke, but if he only ends up facing one Klit, he'll have ducked at least one top dog. Say what you like about Ricky's performance against May and Pac - and against the latter he was obviously woeful - but he faced up to the two biggest challenges out there. He got his backside handed to him on both occasions, and probably bought himself a lot of the mental issues he's now making such a public spectacle of himself trying to come to terms with. But regardless of the whole money issue - Hatton stuck his reputation on the line in a way many big name fighters simply refuse to do... His current low currency should be compared with the relative high opinion afforded Calzaghe, a guy with shitloads more natural abilty, who nevertheless went nowhere near a prime pound for pound fighter his whole career. Haye is taking the - much smarter - Calzaghe route, and Harrison is his Manfredo-style payday. But it doesn't change the underlying fact that Hatton faced his biggest challenges, and Haye shows little appetite, so far, for following suit.

I don't personally put much stock in this "he fought Money and Pac" line. Yes he fought the two best fighters of his era, and made a **** load of money into the bargain, but he got his ass handed to him both times. A blown-up Oscar Larios (who got blitzed by Jorge Linares a year later) done a better job against Pac, and a prime Castillo dropped two close ones (the first fight was a pick-em) to a better version of Mayweather at Lightweight. Zab Judah also did better against Mayweather.

Its like rating Oba Carr higher because he got his head kicked in by prime versions of De La Hoya, Quartey and Trinidad. Although to be fair Carr made more of a fight of things in those bouts than Hatton did against Pac or Mayweather.

Not comparing Hatton's resume to Castillo's or Larios' - just Haye's. I don't honestly blame Haye for taking the Calzaghe route, rather than the balls to the wall approach (daft in retrospect, perhaps), Hatton adopted. Obviously the huge sums of money involved informed Hatton's decision-making, but I genuinely believe the state he's in now spews from having his ego shredded so spectacularly, and what price do you put on that sort of trauma? My suspicion now is that Haye has a very clear idea of his capabilities in the Heavyweight division, and they don't currently tally with seeing off either Vitali or Wlad. He'll watch for weaknesses, and if he sees age taking it's toll, he'll take a calculated risk on Vitali maybe, but his moves so far in the HW division have been all business, and I don't see him taking a proper risk any time soon.

if haye beats any of the klits, then it'll go to him, but at the moment it's hatton just because he's got that one win against a true elite, and that's tyszu while haye hasn't got that name on his resume yet.
