    That was awesome. Thanks.

No, it´s not. Pac is no Duran but he has proven himself to be a genuine p4p great.

If Pac had faced some guys HALF as good as prime Leonard, Hearns and Hagler in his weight jumping exploits, perhaps Steward would have a point.

    Na, probably not even then....

How about a quarter as good?

    Pac is truely a legend.

Duran however is a boxing immortal, and JUST the one win over leonard and its manner trumps mannys entire career.

Steward at times talks a complete load of kunty bollocks.
Watch pac get totally outclassed by money may if they ever meet.

I don't agree with his point of view and i believe these quotes have probably been taken out of context somewhat.

Believe it or not i am very upset reading this interview, it is a sign of things to come, the rage filled backlash, the calm before the inevitable shitstorm of threads matching and favouring Duran against every living thing from Welterweight to Super Middleweight as well as deitys and religious icons, that is due to hit the classic anytime now

Mike Marley taking things out of context??? Nahh... Marley is the king of lying, making **** up, and taking things out of context. Im sure its completely misquoted. Pac has certainly moved up in weight in a similarly dominating fashion, and Im sure thats what Steward was referring to, the way hes done it.

I agree with the trend of this thread.

Any public figure who makes a public statement should be held to the merits of that statement. If it is stupid, he should not be excused, regardless of his stature. Steward is a great trainer. I don't trust his historical aptitude. The boxing world has always confused specialized knowledge with omniscience. Trainers know how to train. Fighters know how to fight. Historians know history. None of them are necessarily comparative analysts. You have to have an eye for that and Steward joins Kellerman in the ranks of those who do not have an eye for that. Hell, one look at the P4P rankings done by fighters or trainers proves that.

In HBO broadcasts, Steward has a tendency to get caught up in the excitement of the moment -like Kellerman. I'm a bit disappointed because Steward is older and should be wiser, though his relative disdain for Duran is a matter of record.

Well, he's trained Hearns and is a friend of Leonard's. Perhaps that's why.

Maybe so. I suspected it years ago and frankly, it surprised me then. He is one of those guys who get all simple when they talk about the Fab Four --"Well," they say, "Duran had the worst record against them." As if Duran was in his prime. As if Duran was not a natural lightweight. As if it is normal or common that a natural lightweight competes against middleweights and a 6'1 praying mantis.

It seems Steward is biased against Duran or simply doesn't rate him. Maybe he judges Duran off the Hearns, Leonard 2/3, Benitez and Laing fights. Obviously Pac hasn't eben boxing fighters of the level of the first 3. It seems Steward highly rates Pacquaio's footspeed and stealth in his attacks and rightly so. Duran's a great fighter, so is Pacquaio, I like the technical skill of Duran's style better personally

Its funny watching the Durantards spit their dummies out in this thread cursing Steward

But sas you said, even the great boxing minds often succumb to quite simplistic statements that are clearly affected by personal feelings. Like when Futch implies that Ali had a very padded record, Moore not mentioning Charles as even one of his best opponents etc, etc.
