A PRIME GEORGE FOREMAN,JOE FRAZIER AND SONNY LISTON IN THE MODERN ERA (90s and 00s)

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by combatesdeboxeo, Oct 30, 2010.

  1. George foreman weighed 226-230 pounds in his amateur career when he was 18-19 years old.he diminished his weight when he did start his pro career to increment his speed and stamina.
George foreman weighed 231 1/2 pounds of pure muscle in 1976. He didn´t have modern nutrition, supplements, roids or modern training with weights.
Can do you imagine him training in the modern era?
I think that george would have weighed 240-245 pounds of pure muscle easily and sonny would have weighed 235 pounds. And they would knock out anyone today.

For example david tua is very heavy now, because he did adapt his weight because today the boxers are heavier. But he weighed 200 pounds in his pro debut.
I have no doubt, joe frazier would have been as heavy as tyson or even heavier. In the modern era. Because he had big bones, he was very solid. He didn´t have modern advantages and the weighed 214 pounds when he faced foreman in 1973. I think a prime joe frazier would have weighed 225 pounds of pure muscle.

(guys i am spanish, sorry for my bad english)

Foreman would have been at least 380lbs. Liston would have been able to fly. Frazier would be able to burrow to the core of the earth, like Superman.

    Your English is fine!

I always liked paulino. he fought a number of champions back to back and knocked out harry wills. only in his last ever fight was he knocked out.

His estimates for Foreman & Liston are clearly too much.
Additionally he thinks Tua got obese to "adapt" to todays bigger (& often fat) heavyweights, more accurately he got lazy & ate himself obese at Burger King.

  9. i disagree but i respect your opinion

  10. thanks tommy, how can i put an image on my profile ?

Most modern heavies are just fat, notice how they look small next to the k brothers, they are 245-250. Your Peter, Aerola are actually 230-240 fighters if that. The think about men and fat is it goes around your organs first so time you get a hint of a gut you already about 15-20 pounds overweight. Put 20-30 on a 70's heavywight and bingo you get a 2010 heavy.

I don't understand all this b.s. about "modern nutrition"... Those guys (Frazier, Liston, and Foreman) were in great shape and a good weight and well-suited for fighting.

Does modern nutrition mean to be 20-40 lbs overweight?

Heavier isn't necessarily better or more effective.

I love how Marciano would be 220 lbs under modern nutrition (I've heard this before too) or Frazier would be 225 lbs... I seriously doubt it.

I think we would see those guys chop down and obliterate all these fat, lazy, low-workrate, one-punch-at-a-time bums that we've seen in the 90's-00's...

  13. do you think that a 27 years old george foreman would be fat with 240 pounds? noway.he weighed 224,225,228,229,231 1/2 among 1974-77 without fat. and he didn´t take modern supplements or he didn´t have modern training with weights.
lennox lewis weighed 220-230 pounds when he was in his "prime". in his late 30s he weighed 245 pounds and he wasn´t fat he had modern advantages , george foreman was by far stronger than lennox lewis, lewis was just taller, george was 6,3 1/2( 1,92m) and lennox 6´5 (1,95m).

I'm not getting into all this "would've been 7 inches taller and 40lbs of muscle heavier" bull****, it justs confuses me. The fighters i see on film from thier time, all 3 fighters would be no.1 today, no doubt in my mind.

The 90's, i dont know. Liston, Foreman and Frazier in the mix with Tyson, Lewis, Bowe and Holyfield. So many good matchups there...

    Heavyweight League!

    Foreman vs Frazier(win) vs Liston(win) vs Tyson(lose) vs Lewis(lose) vs Bowe(win) vs Holyfield(win) - 4 wins
    Frazier vs Foreman(lose) vs liston(win) vs Tyson(lose) vs Lewis(win) vs Bowe(lose) vs Holyfield(win) - 3 wins
    Liston vs Foreman(lose) vs Frazier(lose) vs Tyson(lose) vs Lewis(lose) vs Bowe(win) vs Holyfield(lose) - 1 win
    Tyson vs Foreman(win) vs Frazier(win) vs Liston(win) vs Lewis(lose) vs Bowe(win) vs Holyfield(lose) - 4 wins
    Lewis vs Foreman(win) vs Frazier(lose) vs Liston(win) vs Tyson(win) vs Bowe(win) vs Holyfield(win) - 5 wins
    Bowe vs Foreman(lose) vs Frazier(win) vs Liston(lose) vs Tyson(lose) vs Lewis(lose) vs Holyfield(win) 2 wins
