Why does Moorer call George a phony?

i don't even remember Moorer or Atlas even asking for the rematch, it's like they didn't want it.

 

You can see that George was setting up the right hand, but i dont think he was up until that round. His gameplan really wasnt working until he found a home for that punch earlier in the round. It wasnt a lucky punch though, it was a punch that you would expect from a old veteran who could improvise.

 

I think George is phony.......Many people have stated that George is a totally different person once the cameras and lights are off him. It's quite possible that Foreman is still the same miserable SOB that he was in the 1970's. Maybe he's just become a good actor and salesman..........Hence, the phony tag....

 

Moorer was easily winning and got caught with a big shot and KOed. Not a lucky punch and not set up either. Somewhere in the middle though but still it was just a shot. Didn't even look like much. Moorer Calapses and George get's a comeback KO. I'm not even sure if George won a round prior to that.

George saying he was setting him up for it the whole fight is BS. Yes that is what George said.

 

Sour grapes. I consider Foreman's KO of Moorer and winning a second HW Championship @age 45 one of the greatest accomplishments in sports of the 20th century. I don't know why it does not get the recognition it deserves.

 

:good I believe I recall Merchant saying..."The myth of Foremans power has been dispelled tonight..." then within a round or so George lowered the boom.

Its been years since I watched that fight and I dont really care to look it up on youtube to jog my memory. I am pretty sure thats how things went. Yes Moore was easily winning...then he decided to stand in front of Foreman...

 

You cant say that was bs...boxing is all about setting up shots. Do you think George was just throwing random punches without a plan at all?? Really???

Whether a plan works or not usually fighters are always "setting up a fighter to land the big right hand"... whether thats pawing with a jab while taking a half step forward you really are trying to set up the right hand. So him saying he was setting up the right hand is very believable. If he wasnt then why didnt he just throw right hand after right hand in hopes one would land?

 

Moorer is far from the only guy to call Foreman something to the extent of fake, a phony, con-artist, etc..

 

moorer was outboxing foreman, but like i said as the rounds went by it seemed like moorer was taking it easy on foreman. atlas was shouting at moorer telling him round after round that he has to throw more punches because foreman couldn't compete with the workrate and speed of moorer, but moorer instead just took it easy, and because he slowed his workrate, it gave the older foreman just enough time to land that punch. it wasn't the first big punch foreman landed, he landed a few before that, and it was all down to moorer slowing down, not due to foreman boxing better.

foreman is a great fighter, and his legacy speaks for itself, but he does talk out of his arse.

 

yea moorer was owning foreman pretty bad KNOWING all big george really had was a puncher's chance. that's moorer's fault for falling asleep or taking foreman's power for granted. it doesn't matter moorer landed 20 punches to 1 of foreman's one punch is sometimes all it takes. this is another one of those highly skilled fighter gets owned by a lesser skilled fighter. moorer is a great fighter, but a sour loser

 

I've heard quite a few people say he's still an ******* and a bully when the cameras are off.

Of course, that has nothing to do with Moorer getting knocked silly and having blood gush from his mouth and onto the canvas.

 

Moorer could be considered lucky as hell that he wasn't facing the young version of Foreman...of twenty years earlier. What a punk for mouthing off with that ****.

 

Despite being behind on the cards, it wasn't like Foreman wasn't landing good shots before those final 2 right hands.

Foreman probably exaggerated how much he planned it, but it's true when he said in the post-fight interview that he was landing that shot throughout the night. He'd landed some heavy shots and stunned Moorer earlier in the bout.
