A PRIME GEORGE FOREMAN,JOE FRAZIER AND SONNY LISTON IN THE MODERN ERA (90s and 00s)

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by combatesdeboxeo, Oct 30, 2010.

  1. they diminished his weight voluntarily when they did start in the boxing. you can see his big bones in the joe legs , joe frazier could be well 220 pounds without a gram of fat. tyson had tons of muscle modern advantages and still they had similar size, tyson wasn´t bigger than joe of natural way.

  2. " all 3 fighters would be no.1 today, no doubt in my mind."[/quote]

    absolutely

They would be stronger and a little bigger based on the supplements and weight training. But I can't see prime George foreman carrying around 240 lbs o weight, he already had stamina problems to begin with.

  4. really? :nonoforeman weighed 231 1/2 pounds in 1976 AND HE did look natural , tyson had tons of artificial muscles , could him increment 9 pounds of muscle with modern training? ABSOLUTELY
lennox lewis weighed 220-230 in his prime, he weighed 245 in his late 30s.
foreman was 6´3 1/2( 1,92m) and lewis 6´5(1,95m) lennox was just lightly taller, foreman was by far genetically stronger.
old foreman weighed 257 pounds with some fat and he had better stamina than a prime foreman....

Yeah but did you think that George was prime in 76'? George had some serious stamina problems in 76', I mean sure he was ripped and in great shape, but if he was so good at 231 pounds he would have fought at that weight his whole career.
Clearly that wasn't a good weight for a young Foreman, or he would have done a lot better against Young and Lyle.

  7. the weight is not matter, george was bad mentally when he faced young and lyle. he was depressed after he lost against ali

  8. i don´t care for your opinion

I personally think you should'nt have to put weight on to compete with naturally bigger heavies. 90% of the time coming in heavy is a disadvantage. Fight at your optimum weight. Also while Foreman may have hit slightly harder than Lewis and possibly had a better chin, no way was he physically stronger.

  10. lennox lewis didn´t have the chin to take the bombs of george, lewis would have chance to win the rematch by ud, but foreman would ko him once for sure, mike tyson would not beat george foreman even in dreams... his style was perfect for george, no short puncher would beat george foreman...no contest foreman would ko tyson 5/5 fights

Actually the old foreman who used weights probably was physically stronger. Young Foreman may have been stronger too.

The weight doesn't matter? Of course it does, that's what you were discussing like 20 minutes ago And that's what the thread is about.
I seriously doubt a prime George Foreman could carry around 240 LB without getting gased. he would get tired way easier. a 220 ( or more) still had serious stamina problems.

What are "artificial muscles" that Tyson had? I could be wrong, but I don't think he used weights as a part of his training- at least heavy weights... And yes, Tyson was naturally bigger and more muscular than Frazier.

Yes, Frazier could be 220lbs without a gram of fat. So could I, if I lifted weights and went crazy with the supplements, but it doesn't mean Frazier would have been better with that extra muscle or weight, same as me weighing 220 wouldn't give me much more of a chance against any of the fighters in question....

I still don't see any evidence of "modern nutrition" making any difference for the better concerning performance.

When we've all seen guys like Jameel McCline and Michael Grant and Mount Whitaker that look like unbeatable hulks turn out to be total bums, all that extra weight in muscle doesn't amount to **** in a real fight.
