Well...Cotto? What happened there? Very dangerous opponent but it wasn't huge huge money considering the money Hatton could make against anybody, never happened.

Judah and Witter in the WBU days, he was very opportunistic about the next guy they offered him to knock over but did he want to fight guys that had attributes to trouble him and were dangerous? No, he was happy to see those guys move up.

The only big 'risk' he took in a very long period from the WBU days to Mayweather was infact Tszyu and he was coming into that as a challenger at home. In retrospect considering how well Collazo has done since it looks a big risk, but at the time it was considered an easy paper title for Hatton to become a 2 weight world champ.

So its Hattons fault that he didn't fight Cotto before the Mayweather fight? Not Cottos? Neither fighters management seemed to want that fight, it never got talked about at any serious level as far as I can remember.

Lets be honest if Hatton had of fought Judah instead of Urango or Paulie then they would be the guys he "avoided". Theres always going to be gaps in a record for people to pick up on.

    As for Witter.....no comment!!

Hatton's career post-Tzsyu was hardly a mission to seek out the hardest challenges wherever they may be - it was by the numbers profile-building for the American market. But the point remains, there wasn't a Bradley around at the time - there was a Witter, obviously, and you take your own view on that as it suits you. But he took the biggest challenge available as soon as it became available, and no matter what level of berk he may have arrange himself into these days, I do give him credit for taking that test. I'd say again, he's made a lot of money for these two mega-fights, but to the great British public, he'll be known as a loser since that's what he did in his two biggest fights. The majority of fighters avoid this kind of reckoning - think however many British fighters avoiding a prime Toney or Jones - where Hatton took the challenge. That's where Haye is - perhaps smartly - taking the easier route... the Calzaghe route I'd call it - and that's where I'd say the true parallel exists with Haye's career path - although he has taken a more perilous route than Joe did in getting to this rarified position, and so perhaps deserves more credit than the Welshman.

The Pacquiao annihilation done it for me. That was the quickest win he had since 2002. I mean to be going down like a yo-yo in the first was just awful.

Thing is when you Boxrec Hattons record, is getting KO'd early that unusual an ending to a boxers career?

I can't think of too many guys getting sparked early from a guy who used to be 7 weight divisions below them mate. Pacquaio is a special fighter but thats outrageous.

Speaking of Hatton/Collazo/Paulie. I had to laugh when before the Malignaggi vs. Hatton fight, Paulie was going on about, how his friend Luis Collazo had laid the blueprint for him and was telling him how to beat Hatton.

I remember thinking to myself...Why the heck is Paulie taking advice from Luis Collazo on how to fight Ricky? At the time that was the equivalent of Obama taking advice from John DeLorean on how to rescue the Big 3 auto giants in the States,.

Collazo gave Rick some problems but last time I checked, Paulie is not a southpaw and why would I take advice from Collazo whose career at that point was more roller coaster than a ride at Thorpe Park! The only advice Paulie needed to take was from James Mcgirt Sr. which would've marked the first time he'd ever actually listened to Buddy.

Btw, am i the only one who thinks Hatton was more of a bad style for Paulie then visa versa? It's more difficult to outbox Paulie, (which Hatton did at times tbf) then it is to put him under pressure and stalk him. He doesn't have enough to keep pressure fighters honest (unless your name is Baby bullcrap Diaz and you have less of a dig then even Paulie) and his defence is overrated.

I can't think of many Flyweights who fought for a junior Middleweight world title either...

Hatton-Paulie was an easy call (although I seem to remember having a word with TFFP to stop him from putting money on Paulie!).

Paulie had the reputation as the master boxer but despite the fast hands he didn't have the legs to maintain distance or the pop to keep Hatton "honest" on the way in.
