I think in boxing its something that has to be taken account of. I have to admit that I gave Paulie more of a chance against Hatton at the time, than I gave him against Khan later.

Paulie was a perfect style match-up for Khan I thought, therefore I rate Hatton's victory higher. And that doesn't mean I rate Khan higher than Hatton as a fighter. In fact I think a prime Hatton, with his style, would butcher Khan within 4 rounds.

Ranked by who? Most rankings are bollocks, as by Castillo being number 2. At the time most boxing fans would say Cotto was the better fighter. If Khan beats those guys he will be head and shoulder above anyone in the rest of the division.

Well, Hatton was ranked number 1 by all rankings I'm guessing. And I'm not saying Cotto wasn't the better fighter, but Hatton had the stand out win at the time to rank him above Cotto in the rankings.

He probably was ranked number 1 by alot of bodies. But to say he "ruled" or "dominated" the division is simply wrong if he never fought Cotto.

All I said was that he proceeded to 'rule' the division once Cotto moved up. But, I can understand why people would say that he was the ruler of the division after his win over Tszyu :good

When discussing Hatton we hear how great the guys who defeated him were and not so much about who he beat himself.
Name the in their prime, top drawer fighter he beat from
Maussa, Collazo, Urango, Castillo,Lazcano and Paulie.

No way was it a perfect style match-up for Khan, Mr Mac.

If you remember Khan's average style of when he used to come in and just try to punch and use flurries, that would have been horrible as Paulie would have caught Khan coming in every time.

I did a thread on this, and many agreed. Paulie was actually a horribly style match-up.

But Khan just didn't make it seem that way. Khan completely adjusted his style so instead he was outdoing Paulie at his own game by outjabbing the jabber.

I also believe the 'new' Paulie was who just came of his career win against Juan Diaz was much better than the Hatton one.

I personally think Khan's was much better (Not because I'm a Khan fan, really)

Bull ****ing **** was Paulie a bad matchup! Everybody with an ounce of sense knew that was a easy matchup, I thought Khan would win every round which he did. I was far from alone either in thinking that was going to be easy, that was the general consensus.

You are getting conned by Paulie's smoke and mirrors style into thinking he's some kind of master counterpuncher which he is not. He can't actually counterpunch that well, maybe against a straight forward brawler like Diaz but in every other fight he's never countered well. Just because he has handspeed and boxes in a relaxed style does not mean he's a great skilled boxer. Paulie is a one trick pony that relies on his jab and foot movement to avoid punches, he doesn't have a huge repetoire of power punches because he adapted his style to his brittle hands. He's a jab and move merchant and his only way to avoid punches is to duck down, if you think having a decent jab against somebody with the jab Khan has, and having that type of defence is good against somebody with that type of handspeed you are bat**** insane.

Khan would have to beat a few more great fighters and at least move up to 147....otherwise Hatton has probably just achieved a little more. His only losses coming to p4p number 1 fighters... once moving up to 147. Hatton win against Tsyzu is also very high. Tsyzu was at least top 3 p4p in most peoples rankings at the time.

So until he wins against someone like that, he can't be rated higher than hatton. IMO he will go on to achieve more than hatton.

Very true. Not to mention Paulie's brittle hands failing to trouble Khan's glass jaw.

It's the manner of victory as well as the 'name'.

Khan fights like a scared *****.
