If Taylor lasted the last few seconds. what would have been the scoring. could this have been a controversial decision either way? or a clear victory for Taylor. How did you have it?
i had it 9-2 the first time, i've rewatched it numerous times, and gone through pieces at a time often and have rescored it at 7-4 going into the 12th with the last round, chavez would have lost it by a point on that card
It was a lot closer than most think IMO. Taylor landed more and the better looking blows but Chavez landed the ones that did the damage and that was clearly visible frm the midrounds on. Taylor was winning but not by much.
I had it: Round 1: Taylor Round 2: Chavez Rounds 3-8: Taylor Round 9: Chavez Round 10: Even Round 11: Chavez 7-3-1, or 107-103 Taylor.
I taped the classic off HBO back in 1990 and I still have my tape tucked safely in a box.... I've seen / reviewed the fight several times over since '90... Chavez was WAY BEHIND on points going into round 12... Granted, Taylor busts up easy and bleeds a lot, but that doesn't negate the fact that he was landing good punches on the rugged Chavez for 11 solid rds... After 11 rds of classic boxing / fighting, I had Taylor ahead by 7 to 4 in rds.... But Taylor really had nothing left in round 12, and that knockdown he suffered was big.... Taylor ****ed up there... When you get decked in a heated fight near the end, you DON'T look away from the referee when he's eyeballing you and asking questions... Taylor ****ed himself when he glanced away and looked towards his corner for advice... OKAY! The stoppage is questionable since only (2) seconds were left in the fight, but Taylor's goose was cooked..... Come 1994, Taylor was a sad mutha' going back down to 140 for his rematch with Chavez..... Taylor was shot to all hell in that farce..... I gave up and walked away from Taylor's future fights after 1994.... He was done..... MR.BILL NOTE! I thought Chavez still looked good and poised in his 1995 fight against David Kamau.... 1995 saw the end of Chavez' true peak fighting days / nights...
:huh I had Taylor comfortably ahead. Steele really had a **** run around this time. He screwed the Tyson Ruddock fight too, although this was far far worse. It wouldnt have been a bad call if it was in the middle of the round, but the timing was horrible in this one. Surprised Steele continued on, he was a marked man for several years after.
