When people deminish Floyd's Welterweight record is it a sign of how good he is?

Alot of people have problems with his record since becoming Welterweight because they feel he hasn't fought any real competition. But alot of people seem to say he is up for a big challenge, then when he wins easily they switch up and say it wasn't a challenge to begin with. Not only casual fans are guilty of this. Even boxing historians who have been watching boxing since before many of were born are guilty as well. Here is an example of what goes on from Bert Sugar.

No...it's a sign that he hasn't done great things at 147lbs.

His resume at 140lbs and above is not as great as it could have been.

It's also not as bad as most critics make it out to be.

no. His welterweight record isn't the best and when people criticize it they do it with proper grounds and reasonable evidence. There's enough ammunition there

Its not as bad as haters make it out to be but I think a proportion of the criticism from level headed people is just. I don't hate on him for fighting Baldomir though even though a lot of people do.

Oh definitely...but Cotto and Margarito's names on his resume in 2008 would have looked great though.

Bert just got it completely wrong to begin with. Comparing George Foreman's 10 year lay off to a 14 month one? A lot of fighters have taken 14 month lay-offs and comeback without ill effects. Considering it's Floyd Mayweather - a guy who at the time of the comeback wasn't particularly old, who hadn't taken a lot of punishment previous and who doesn't drink, doesn't smoke and is in shape all year round and always in the gym, it was obvious he was going to come back without any or much deterioration.

And you had a guy in Marquez up against him who was stepping up from a weight he could make comfortably enough two weight divisions, and who stylewise matched up purely. Great technician, great counter-puncher and very accurate with his shots offensively, but defensively he has flaws, and he's up against a guy who stylewise could match up to him and beat him in every department, and he wasn't strong enough in certain areas to be able to press the action against Floyd.

This right here. After he got the title from Baldomir in 2006, he didn't fight a true WW until this year.

If he fought Pacquiao would you consider that a true WW?

    :err What?

Castillo x2 [officially] at 135lbs. Hernandez, Chavez, Manfredy, Corrales at 130, where his resumé is very good.

The only regret I have is that he didn't face Cotto or Margarito. But,
I honestly think his problems with Bob Arum was the reason for that. Not his reluctance to fight them.
