David Lemieux vs Dimitry Pirog right now... who wins?

Brikhaus either we're sharing a brain or you read my post in another thread on pirog. I think Ishe Smith would be the perfect litmus for lemieux at
this juncture. And the poster who said dmitri isn't a slickster is basing that
SOLELY on him being eastern european. Pirog isn't supposed to do what he's doing, and that's why short sighted armchair fans don't think he'll do
much past WBO title level. They're WROOOOOONNGGGGG!!


Oh, and pirog wins every round up until the 6th where it's waved off. Sea in class
difference against the french canadian.

uumm, no. people say he isn't slick because its painfully obvious he isn't, just because he utilizes the philly shell american style doesnt auomatically make him a slick boxer. just look at the way he fights, he constantly throws his back foot in front of his lead one, therefore he's off balance whenever this happens. plus he cant put together a single combination, so please spare us the "oh we poor wittle eastern europeans are at the mercy of harsh black critics" schtick, its getting old and i see right through it. pirog is still a great fighter nonetheless with as much potential as any other prospect out there, but dont classify him as something he isn't.

 

\I tend to think of "slick" meaning defensively hard to hit because of their movement, like how you slide right off of something that is slick. I guess you can be slick offensively as well, and I'll agree that he's not slick with his offense, but he's very slick with his defense. Also, he doesn't really use a shoulder roll (or Philly Shell if you want to call it that) that much. He bobs and weaves and avoids punches with copious head and upper body movement. Occasionally he turns his shoulder, but that's not his primary defensive mechanism. This is based off about five fights of his I've seen, not just the Jacobs fight.

Defensively, he fights like a poor man's James Toney. You wouldn't call that slick?

And yeah, he has holes and flaws, but that doesn't really have much to do with being slick. Those flaws are the reason I think Lemieux would have a chance - Lemieux is a patient fighter and picks his spots well. If he doesn't get frustrated with Pirog's movement, he could wait until Pirog gets sloppy jumping in with a punch and then counter him hard when he's out of position.

 

well what i mean is that his style doesn't appear to come natural to him, when he shells up and tries to do all the james toney stuff he appears to be uncomfortable. as if he's being forced to fight the way when in reality he wants to utilize another tactic. when guys like james toney did it, it looked as if it was second nature too him. he almost effortlessly rolled with his opponents punches and used upper body movement almost TOO well. this doesn't take awya from pirogs skills though, as i think of him very highly. look at james degale for example, he ries to utilize the same style too but again, he looks awkward and uncomfortable doing it.

 

ill allways suport the punchers. power is the most devastating exciting and dangerous thing in boxing & lemieux has it. id rekon he'd ko any middleweight on earth if he lands clean. the kid obviously has freakish power

 

Pirog is difficult to hit clean. He has a far more developed style than anyone Lemieux has fought. In a year though, it will be a very competitive fight. Both men are turing into elite level boxers

 

He's a little bit rigid, but that's how he's always fought.

 

This should be Lemieux's next fight... I think he beats Jacobs; but there is only one way we will know.

It would be a good fight.

Or Lemieux may completely destroy him in a round; at that point the hype will REALLY start.

 

In my opinion in order to qualify as a "slickster" a fighter MUST have the ability to fight off the back foot. When Pirog goes backward he gets hit, and hit ALOT, and doesn't throw anything back.

I'm not the only one who noticed this. Jacobs' trainer tried to get Danny to put some pressure on Pirog after the 3rd round. His exact words were,"He can't fight going back!"

If Lemieux could put Pirog n the back foot, and keep him there, he'd knock him out. However, I doubt if David has the physical tools or the experience to make Pirog back up. I think Pirog would win a pretty entertaing slug fest, but I also think 21 year old David Lemieux has ten times the potential the 30 year old Pirog has.

 

atsch. Yeah, maybe he should try fighting like a stiff E European so you can feel more comfortable...

I dont know why but I would love see this Fight too.

IMO Kirkland would take a lot of punishement but he would Stop Lemiux at midd/late rounds.

Kirkland is a BEAST.
