So I just watched and scored quartey-de la hoya. hell of a fight, I had quartey ahead by one point. That last judge must have been ****ing blind if he scored it 112-116. to me that's a big robbery. by the way that jab is beautiful :yep

so what are your favorite Ike quartey fights?
Where do you rank him in the welterweights?
What are some fights I should watch of him?

    Thanks guys

good timing, just watched the first 8 round of the de la hoya fight and so far, ike is in command.

i love watching him myself. the only fight where i was dissapointed in his performance (that i've seen) is the winky fight. he just didn't seem to care at all about that one

Very good fighter, he had one of the best jabs I've ever seen. His timing and delivery were usually pin point accurate.

Very good fighter, though basic in style and one-dimensional.

A very strong tank at Welter.Hard puncher, though i think he has one of the more misleading knockout records of his generation.Still, he could crack.

Great dominating heavy jab; a brutal if not versatile weapon for him.Decent clubbing right hand and could throw some nice short uppercuts and combos up close.

Defensively was nothing special...basic but effective.Had a good tight shell guard that could be tough to break without the use of angles and imaginative punching. Not much imagination or counterpunching flair from it however.Had little headmovement to speak of, though his biggest weakness defensively was his vulnerability to the left hook when not in his shell.

Chin solid, but dentable by good Welter punchers.Stamina solid enough, but did tend to fade towards the end of fights.

Not the best footwork.Had a strong base from which he delivered his shots(unlike say Tito)but tended to fight in straight lines, or flat footed and was never too convincing going backwards or moving laterally imo.

I've heard him described as both a quick fighter and a slow one.I'd tend to sympathise with both sides. He showed some good handspeed at times and could be quick with his single shots, but his speed eroded quite quickly and by the DLH fight he was punching like a Welter Bruno.Inactivity really ruined the sharpness he had circa Espana and Carr imo. That quartey beats Oscar clearly much more often than not.

Overall for me, a very good fighter, yet one who was flawed in his over-reliance on strength and one A level weapon. He could be solved by the better stylists and punchers alike at Welter, though would give plenty a solid fight and pick up some good wins.

I think Lora covered the bases pretty good. I always found it funny how Quartey seemed to grin when he was floored or hurt.

He was a very strong welterweight with a somewhat robotic approach. I would say he was more one dimensional than Tito was. Jab was definitely his best punch.

The Vargas and Lopez fights were good ones. Carr was a good fight too. Carr threw a lot of combinations so it made for an entertaining fight even though he was outgunned big time.

As an aside, i've rarely watched a supposedly elite fighter look as tense as Oscar did against Ike.

Probably because like Carr, DLH was undergunned. Quartey might have been physically stronger than Tito, but DLH showed some stuff in that fight pulling it out at the end.

yeah, de la hoya was awesome in that final round... but even with that 10-8 round I still don't really get how that idiot judge can score that fight 116-112 :patsch what an idiot

Yeah it was razor close. I thought the knockdown sealed the fight, but remember it was ODLH, the Golden Child, he was going to get the benefit of all rounds, unless of course Don King was sharing the promotion. :hey

i just don't think it shouldve been that wide.

    agreed.

Quartey was a lot of fun to watch, kinda of a cool, robot made of iron. Lopez finally dented him but I believe he paid a price doing so.
