toccos isn't eddie's gym it owned by a real estate developer.its the main gym in las vegas its three main trainers are mike mccallum, Honey Bear Bryant and Merqui Sosa its like las vegas's wild card all the top fights train there when in vegas
I think Ronnie Shields and Tommy Brooks are overrated. Shields in particular is a poor cornerman as well. One could be a good trainer, but a poor cornerman and vise versa. For example Angelo Dundee wasn't a great trainer IMO. But was a great cornerman. He could say the right things at the right times, knew what his fighter would react to and so wouldn't over burden him like Shields does.
how could brooks or even shields be overrated when people hardly ever talk about them? all we hear about is how roach is this, steward is that, roger is great etc.
my mistake, everyone i ask about EMM tell me he works out of johnny toccos so i just assumed he ran it.
I'm glad Grandpa Garcia is getting some coverage, he's been training amateurs and pros for a very long time, he's a great coach.
Grandpa will have a gameplan but i doubt margo will be able to execute it, grandpas best with boxers and boxers-punchers or at tweaking brawlers and adding defense, i noticed in the training footages he's been trying to teach margo head movement and parrying but i doubt it ill work as margos too far into his career.
Well, the few who talk about them, will keep telling you they're the best thing since sliced bread. I just don't rate tbh.
thats because they are! particularly Brooks. if you watched or heard brooks at work you will see he is like a professor, he is the man that put together the gameplan for holyfield to beat tyson, he came up with the idea to bully tyson which even holyfield himself was thinking it would be crazy especially at that age but brooks convinced him to go for it and evander put on a beat down!
Uli wegner you mean, yeah he's good, dont know much about him, he used to train the german national team, trained povetkin, AA, valuev, otke and others...
Let me tell you i'm familier with both their work and they're what i call instructors and not teachers. In other words they'll tell you what to do, but not how. I agree Brooks is the better of the too, but they have similar minds and are really poor in the corner. They're not horrendous by todays standards, they're good guys and decent trainers, but i wouldn't be sending my fighter to be trained by either. It's just my opinion.
you're mistaking man, shields is a poor cornerman not brooks, brooks is always calm and collective in the corner and doesn't go crazy, he didn't make this many world champions by accident.
