i've been hearing about this guy for a while but i saw him for the 1st time on youtube today. How good was he? Can someone compare him to an active fighter of this era ? I just saw calzague beat him soundly, i was wondering if eubank was washed up or out of prime for that fight And how good was nigel benn?
Eubank was never the same after he nearly killed Michael Watson in their rematch. That was around 1989-90 if memory serves me right, the Slappy fight was 1997. Eubank/Watson and Benn would have all given Slappy nightmares had they all been around in the same era. Eubank was a very good fighter and had one of the best chins I ever saw, unbelievably hard man. Not quite at the level of Jones/Hopkins/Toney but still a very good champion.
Jones would have schooled him, and i honestly like Eubank, like the way he fought and out how he was outside the ring.
Great fighter before the Watson fight, and an absolute madman. Very, very entertaining. Also drives a truck which he uses for political campaigning. A nutter of the highest order. You watched his documentary with Louis Theroux? Absolutely *******s, him and Louis became really good friends after that. My favourite Theroux documentary.
Very special fighter, played the "arrogant" role like no other. He also had a lot more punching power than his record might suggest, he had an incredible right half swing, half uppercut but oddly only seemed to use it when he needed it, or sometimes just when he felt like it. Don't think anyone could actually "school" him like suggested, but I favour both RJJ and Toney over him on points. And Hopkins of '91 to early '94 (Eubanks prime) would have been a toss up ('95 I give it to B-Hop).
