There's a Wendy's fast food restaurant right next to the site there, now,BB.It's been there for about 31 years.Every time I look out the window,I think of all the fights they used to have there.A buddy of mine owns a drinking establishment(a drinking establishment in Sunnyside? What a surprise!)that I've been known to frequent just a few blocks away.Every time I pass the old SG site on the way home from that establishment,I get quite nostalgic. Some place SG was:good.

In the days before satelite tv,i defy any man to watch Sportsnight on a wednesday night, listen to that great great theme tune knowing a british title or (gasp) an INTERNATIONAL fight (usually between the latest british hope and some bum over for a paycheque, buster drayton being a notable exception) and not be excited at what was about to happen

    1. That fighters drank thier water from wine bottles between rounds.
    2. That the New York fighters were identified by thier neighborhood. "Bronx Bull"

It was nice when JG gave you a compliment for some reason.

Once JG said a post I wrote was "thoughtful" and "well written" when I totally disagreed with him. I know what you mean.

I the type of guy who has a real tough time when he loses a friend. This especially now that I'm in my 60s and have lost so many good pals over my many years. Guess I'm not the only one who is that way.

Very kind of you guys to resurrect some of these old threads.

And I'd like to post a thought on "ol' skool" boxing while I'm at it:

Yes, the old Cavalcade theme. Have never forgotten it and it'll always be a song at the back of my mind. What great boxing shows we had in dem days!

And I think back on the old boxing clubs we had in East New York/Brownsville section of Brooklyn such as the one on Livonia & Georgia Avenue and one in Pitkin Avenue around Rockaway Avenue.

So many memories! But none that would match what my dad had when he hung out at the old St Nick or Eastern Parkway. Nothing could possibly match those experiences!!
