unfortunately this website is blocked at my office. Can someone copy/paste it here? Just long enough so i can print it.
Can you get to Seconds Out? It's also up there: http://www.secondsout.com/columns/thomas-hauser/hbo-and-the-state-of-boxing--part-one
It's a very good article. Al Haymon is one of the shadiest characters in the sport, and the influence he seems to have on HBO's boxing programme is ridiculous. I think the quote from J. Russell Peltz sums up my biggest issue with HBO: "HBO is more interested in guys with good records than they are in guys who are good fighters. They think they're building stars and they aren''t. Fighters become stars when they win exciting fights."
Hauser always shits on Golden Boy and Al Haymon in these articles Haymon got it in this one, expect Golden Boy to come under scrutiny in part 2 or 3.
Excellent article. One small thing: It was Roger shopping for Thanksgiving turkey on 24/7, not Floyd Sr.
The part about Kellerman getting even more face time in 2011 is sickening. The guy is as incompetent as it gets. Davis should be fired.
He's the best boxing writer out there, by far. Interesting stuff about Haymon. Also Dawson and Berto selling 970 odd tickets for their fight? WTF!
Dawson/Tarver rematch was worth $3.2 million, but Pavlik/Sturm was only worth $2 millionatsch what the **** are these people smoking:bart
Incredible, horrible.... just want to throw up. Boxing is hold hostage with a single cable network a couple of powerful promoters. I'm by no way advocating socialism or communism, but this is the worst possible scenario capitalism can lead you to. No wonder boxing is dying.
How much money does Showtime have compared to HBO? I know it's less, but what percentage are we looking at?
Lets help out HBO and create a list of the fights we want to see (NOT May v Pac) and also how much HBO should be paying for them. Some douche from the network will hopefully read it!!!
Good article. Really, fantastic article, and extremely well-written. Kudos, glad to know SOMEONE knows the deal!
