Morrison gets on his bike and wins a decision.

I don't know, Morrison did that with an old, slow, overweight Foreman. Not sure he could do that with Earnie.

Right. I would go with Shavers in this one. I always liked the way Shavers put his punches together. Morrison was a one trick pony.

Shavers by KO, i cant see Morrison on his bike for 12 rounds against someone like Shavers, its not a matter of if, its when Shavers catches him.

Then again Morrison could come out looking for the Ko and outbomb Shavers....

Bloody hell, this is a no-contest, surely?

    Shavers would annihilate Morrison.

That's it. 2 gunslingers and neither has the defense to last against the other guys firepower. Gotta love the heavyweight gunslinger fights and there just aren't enough of them. Of course the management of the loser has a major rebuilding project on their hands that they likely cannot ever rebuild effectively.

Morrison had the edge in handspeed with that left hook which sizzled early. Only for about 2 or 3 rounds though. But he has to land it because he simply is not going to absorb any sort of punishment from Shavers without getting out of there.

Shaky vote for Earnie and I am not sure he can avoid getting clipped by an early lefthook and getting stopped himself. 2 round fight and 1 of them is making a mistake early.

Chins were about equal, but Shavers is the much heavier hitter, and was the better finisher. If the two punchers squared off, he'd flash into Tommy faster than otherwise.

However, I'd pick the Tommy Morrison of the Foreman fight, primed and determined to box and move, to possibly score the upset. Theres a good, solid chance that Shavers clips him still, but I could definitely see Morrison schooling him, then knocking him out if he absolutely stuck to a conservative gameplans and indeed actually used the tremendous advantages he'd possess in hand and footspeed.

I love Earnie, huge fan. I pick him to win, but he wasn't all that fine a boxer, and he'd need Morrison, or any good fighter with real skill and speed, in front of him to be at his best. When that changes, Shavers always performed less than impressively.

Do you really think Earnie would allow Morrison to box like he did against Foreman? I dont think Shavers was ever slow enough to allow Morrison to run circles around him? Its kind of whoever lands first in this one, but I like Shavers variety a bit more than Morrisons.

No way, Morrison outboxes Shavers without getting caught with something big eventually and brekaing down. The Duke's best chance is to go for broke early like Quarry did, get Shavers before he gets you. Approaching this like the Old Man Foreman fight would be a disaster.

Even a great technician like Holmes got caught and had to mix it up with Shavers.

"Near the end of the [second] round came the moment everyone had been waiting for. Lunging, Shavers smashed Holmes with a thunderous right to the head. Backed up a step, Holmes shook his head, then cracked Shavers in the face with a left and a right. From that moment, every time Shavers hit Holmes with anything heavy, he took a murderous barrage in return. End of question about the ticker. Sports Illustrated
