He should have done this earlier. He could have replaced someone in the Super Six.

I don't see this happening. Bute's team is always talking about how HBO is what it's all about.

I wouldn't be that surprised... it looks like they're taking Bute downmarket in every way...

...if only his last performance had been better than his average best... but even his performance was sub-par...

I was so embarassed to read on the Interbox site that they actuallly thanked the 11k fans for turning up... :(

Then the 3rd fight is Bute vs S6 winner. I think he has a team smart enough to put a clause in the contract if they cant put the winner in there with Bute he can terminate the contract.

Ward may yet lose before the end of the super 6, though he is being given another easier fight.
When you look at it Ward wont have fought any undefeated fighters in the super 6

If Pavlik v Bute is out due to that Injury. HBO has nothing to offer to Bute. That might be the reason.

    good point.

Hopefully HBO steps up and makes a big offer for Pascal vs Bute at 175

People will take what they can get, a paycheck is a paycheck regardless where it comes from.

I'm not sure who Bute will fight in the meantime but if this gets Bute in with the winner of the Super Six then its a great move. I'm not sure but I thought Showtime had options with the winner of the Super 6 which would ensure a match with Bute. If Showtime doesn't have that option then things could get complicated and this could have been a bad move.

Article said Bute would fight in March but there aren't a lot of options with Pavlik being injured. Unless he can get one of the guys who are out of the tournament like Kessler, Dirrell, or Taylor to face him than their aren't many options for his next fight. I would have liked to seen Bute move to 175 and get in the mix with Pascal, Dawson, and Cloud but if he gets the winner of the Super 6 then all works out nicely.

Hopefully... but there was talk of a $3m offer EACH, and Bute still said NO...

...how much bigger need HBO make it for Bute to say YES?

...and what happens if Dawson beats Pascal in the rematch? Surely, there's be a third fight between these two...

The March date was HBO date. Showtime could choose another date

Unless he lands a lucky punch, and he does not do that, that's not even possible.
