The Jim Johnson that fought Jack Johnson 26 years old and with 40 fights under his belt.

Versus Dereck Chisora 26, with 14 fights under his belt.Who challenges Wlad Klitschko in December.

    Johnson had drawn with

    Sam McVey
    Joe Jeanette

    and, beaten
    Tony Ross
    Tom Cowler
    Jewey Smith.

Chisora has beaten a 37 year old Danny Williams, who scaled 273lbs for the fight, and was beaten in a novice 3 rd eliminator in his previous fight by
Carl Baker 8-3-0 Baker dropped Williams twice in the first round.
He is undefeated, against novices, and no hopers.

    Who wins ?

And, who was a more credible title challenger?

At this stage we have to go with Batlin Jim as the much more proven fighter.

If Chisora KOs Wlad or otherwise moves on to better things, then the odds shift.

To be honest, I would give Batling Jim Johnson a good chance against most of the division today.

Having studied exhaustive footage of Battlin' Jim, I agree.

How would he do against Leon Spinks (with 7 fights), Pete Rademacher (0 fights), David Bey (14 fights), Marvis Frazier (10 fights)?

What we know about Johnson is that he was a spoiler who spoiled against better regarded fighters with a wide range of styles and strengths.

    Conclusion?

I've seen some odd fantasy match up's but this is near the strangest.

Chisora isn't really proven against anyone yet, and I can't see him doing much damage to Wlad.

What made you think of this may I ask?

It was prompted by the recent thread ,[still going] about Jack Johnson,Hart ,and before.
Where Mendoza , commenting on Jim Johnson said "one thing to focus on here is Jim Johnson's age, he was only 26".
Quite true he was 26 ,and had 40 fights under his belt with the best men alive including McVey,Jeanette, and Langford. Two of whom he drew with.

I compared this with the next opponent for Mendoza's boy friend ,Wlad Klitschko , namely Dereck Chisora, also 26 but with 14 fights, with has beens and no bodies.
    Hence the match up.
