I had a dvd of some old Oz classics and one of them featured Charkey as ref. Something happened in the fight can't remember what, but all hell broke loose in the ring. Both sets of cornermen got stuck into it then one of them threw a few at Charkey. He gave the guy a nice one to the guts and that was the end of that

That bout was held at the Sydney Opera House between Alex Temelkov and Ken Salisbury, in April 1982. When Ramon DQed Temelkov, after warning him enough times, all hell broke loose.

That was the first and only time boxing was ever held at the Opera House - hardly surprising when you consider the brawl that broke out.

Co-incidentally, other fighters on the same card that night, included 'Flash' Malcolm, and in the main event, Paul Ferreri (both featured in this thread today).

Jose Luis Ramirez v Edwin Rosario - Hiram Bithorn Stadium, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Ramirez wins the WBC lightweight title by TKO in round 4 of 12.

In a 4 round war, Ramirez inflicts the first loss of Rosario's career and wins the title that Rosario won in their previous bout.

Rosario drops Raimrez in the opening seconds of the 1st round, and again in the 2nd round.

In the 4th round Ramirez lands some bombs and Rosario tries to hold on. Rosario corners Ramirez briefly. But Ramirez turns the tables, and Rosario's fight ends in that same corner.

I love the way the british pump up a fight, they get so excited but Hamed needs to sack his choreograph and get a new one, that dance routine was horrible

Amazing a guy could carry on like such a show-pony *** during his entrance, and then win Robinson's title by stoppage straight after.

Hardly surprisingly our old friend 20a87 listed Punce Hamad as one of his favourite fighters.

Philip Holiday v Rocky Martinez - Superbowl, Sun City, North-West, South Africa.

Holiday successfully defends his IBF lightweight title by UD over 12 rounds.

Both went into the bout undefeated - but it was Martinez's zero that would go.

Holiday went on to fight some big names including Hector Comacho Jnr, 'Sugar' Shane Mosely, and recorded wins against Ivan Robinson and our own Jeff Fenech.

....Holiday stopped Fenech in 2 rounds in mid 1996 at The Glasshouse in Melbourne.
