Why do people fault Roy Jones Jr for not giving Hopkins and Toney a rematch?

Their was nothing about their first fights that demanded a rematch. I think Jones/Toney 2 would have gone the same way. Jones/Hopkins 2 probably would have gone much worse for Hopkins then the first fight did.

Nobody did at that time i think, but in 2000 they wanted to see hopkins vs jones because both were dominating

People seem to give Hopkins a lot of passes. Passes for his losses, passes for pulling ***** moves in fights, passes for his fouls, headbutting, etc, passes for his racism.

I dont know what hes done to earn these passes except be a black american.

Editted - changed cheating for fouls

Nah Jones beat Toney too clearly for him to want a rematch especially knowing his ego. I fault both Jones & Hopkins for not coming to an agreement on money. Both were dominant as c-b said so the purse split should've been equal or 60-40 winner something like that.

BTW, when does Hopkins cheat? He FOULS.

    Ye, fair point, amended.

Though you could argue when hes feigning low blows when hes blowing through his arse hes cheating.

Wasn't 60-40 what was planned, but B-Hops wanted more?

Still not cheating. Cheating is using loaded gloves or steroids you know something to that degree. Fouling is the many dirty things Hopkins does(lowblows, headbutts, holding&hitting etc.). He's an opportunist and will use any trick in or out of the book to win.

I don't know all the detail but I do remember Roy Jones saying "60-40 get yer ass kicked". Hopkins felt like he deserved more than 40 because he was dominant in his division like Roy was.

Jones was definitly the bigger draw at that time. Hopkins didn't want a rematch no matter how much he flapped his gums that he did. Hopkins biggest claim to fame was beating a much smaller fighter in Trinidad.

Roy beat Hopkins the best middleweight out there and James Toney the best SMW out there in the span of a year and a half, like it was a walk in the park. Man that guy was good.

Jones beat Hopkins pretty easily with an injured hand and more timid then usual as it was his first title fight. Jones in 2002 would have dominated Bernard IMO.

No, Jones didn't beat Hopkins easily but he did beat him clearly and by a good margin. Definitely not a walk in a park by any means.
