On this attractive triple-header the recurring themes are:

    - Undefeated power-punching super middleweight prospects taking a step up in class (or at least moving laterally).

    - Sons of legends getting one more chance to redeem themselves in the long shadow of their namesakes.

    - Somewhat unpredictable match-ups that could all be either blowouts or highly competitive.

    • FIGHT CARD:
    • Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez vs. James "Buddy" McGirt Jr.
    • Dyah "Ali" Davis vs. Aaron "Chickenhawk" Pryor Jr.
    • Marcus "Too Much" Johnson vs. Kevin "Hitman" Engel

The grown men will be separated from the teat-sucking boys!

Interestingly, there are some somewhat well-known names taking a backseat to the 168lb trio being showcased - Ishe Smith, Andy Kolle, and Antwone Smith are all competing on the non-televised portion of the undercard (which is probably for the best, with all three scheduled to meet a very poor level of opposition).

I'm excited about this card. ShoBox is so much more enjoyable now that it's in HD and no longer looks like a high school production.

Did you catch his upset loss to Tyner a few months ago? He obviously took Lanardo lightly. Expect him to knock out Martinus Clay, but it's hard to say when he'll get back to regular screen-time after having suffered that setback.

As for the ShoBox fights, they're able to squeeze all three in because Rodriguez-McGirt is scheduled for 10 rounds while Davis-Pryor and Johnson-Engel are each only 8.

Yes I did. I expected him to win. I'm a fan of his style. Relaxed and very good head movement. I was looking forward to a fight with Smith and Mike Jones. I thought that would have been a really good fight to gauge where both fighters were. And style wise they both present problems to each other. I was very disappointed that he lost to Tyner. Especially after his prior showbox performance.

Good tripleheader here, ShoBox can put on some nice cards sometimes. Showtime is really investing in the supermiddleweight division. Be nice if they paired up a couple of the winners from this card on a future ShoBox card. If Bute has a couple fights on Showtime before facing the winner of the SuperSix than one of these guys could get the call.

I wish I had Showtime, this is a pretty good card. I think Dyah and Marcus will win the first two fights, and Im glad Ishe will finally get himself a win!

Are you a little more uncertain on the "main event" between Rodriguez and McGirt, then? :think

That does seem to be the most plausible upset.

on the contrary, I left my prediction for Rodriguez/McGirt out because I don't see Junior making it past the 7th round. I mean, I haven't seen McGirt fight much, but he was TKO'd by Carlos de Leon Jr., and I'm not completely sold on La Bomba like a lot of people are, but I think he escapes this fight somewhat easily. how do you see it going down?

He has in the past...and probably still does unless they had one of those all-too-common father and son falling-outs. :think

Does anybody remember seeing Buddy in the corner in his last fight? It was on the Hopkins-Jones II undercard.
