Agree with the bold. Mayweather, cause of the way he defends himself, bends into the power hand of a southpaw, which is why IMO, he has been clocked by Judah and Corley, matter of fact, he got hit cleaner is those fights than any other, that said, I dont think Manny would beat Floyd, simply because Mayweather is longer, which is significant IMO, and cause he has great legs. I think Mayweather's long range game was slightly better than Whitaker's, due to him being longer than Whitaker, that said, Whitaker was better in the pocket, and inside, he also had more heart than Mayweather, as he was willing to hold his feet. I do agree that Pac would have a better chance against Floyd than Whitaker though.

Whitaker is the most skilled fighter I think I have seen, but thats just my humble opinion. The way Whitaker that schooled Haugen, Ramirez 2, Brazier, Cardona was something else.

I'd say Floyd is more open to the right than the left.

When he throws his lead left hook it's partly in an uppercutting motion.... meaning he's just asking to be timed with a short right over the top.

Pacquiao's left is a straight shot rather than a cross..... plus it's from further away which gives Floyd the ability to adjust.

I'd agree against a conventional fighter, but I think the dynamics change against a lefty, the power hand of a lefty cannot be rolled with that shell defense.

He is smart with it though IMO, what he does, is he will take you one way, say to the left, then go back the other way, say to the right, and whilst he is resetting you, he will leap in with the left hook when your in transition from moving to catch up with him, he only really works off that if he can get you dancing to his tune, only most fighters fall into his trap, particularly Corrales.

Its also worth noting, that against Mitchell, Judah, and Corley, that Mayweather has fought more aggressively to negate their southpaw stance.

Whitaker would make Manny (and everyone else) look stupid and predictable every day of the week. I don't think there's any modern boxer at any of his respective weights that would give him any real competition...he is probably the most underrated boxer of all time.

There's no modern boxer that is anywhere near as exciting to watch as he was. Paul McCloskey has similar head movement and reflexes, especially at a distance, but his footwork is not nearly as light or fast...though in some ways he still reminds me of Pernell Whitaker.

I too would tentatively pick Floyd. However i think it's a true 50/50. They both have the tools to cause eachother problems. I really believe though that the Mayweather camp (perhaps not Floyd himself) are amazed with Manny and not sure what to make of him, as far as a fight with Floyd is concerned. The way i see it Mayweather would be forced to change his game a little more then Manny. Floyd IMO would be forced to be more aggressive against Pacquiao and therefore square up a lot more.

Pernell and Miguel Canto are the best i've seen for just pure boxing. It's a shame Whitaker got into hard drugs because he's a fighter who could've fought into his 40's and been effective.

I'd agree with a regular counter punching southpaw, one who likes to fight on the backfoot, use your aggression against you, but I think Pac takes that southpaw advantage somewhat by being so aggressive. Usually its the orthodox fighter who is trying to force more offense outta the southpaw, but against Pac, I think Mayweather would be somewhat like the southpaw, cause he would be the one drawing the aggression of Pac, now that would be very dangerous if he languished about on the ropes like he is prone to doing from time to time, simply because of that left hand we spoke about, but if Mayweather used his legs, got on that stick, Im not sure Manny has the footwork to cut the ring down, the defense as he rolls foward, not to get hit with the cleaner punches and drop rounds.

I think Maweather can beat Manny using his legs, I think he could beat him if he backed him up. I just dont think Mayweather could afford to stand around.

I am still yet to be convinced whether Pac can handle a counter puncher. Manny fought JMM in 07, or 08 or something, and still struggled somewhat, so it makes me think, how much has he come on, is he just looking stellar cause of his comp, their styles?

I do see where you going with that though, and somewhat agree with it, I mean, if anyone can outwork Floyd, take advantage of his low output, you would think a high volume puncher has a chance, whether he hits arms, shoulders or not.

read what I said fool! ;) His reflexes....reflexes...not saying hes in Whitakers league (but really who is in Pernells league?) , though his reflexes and head movement remind me of Whitaker back in the day.

i know they're different but i was referring to mayweathers slickness, defense and counter punching ability, it would give us a better indication of how pac handles that.

Yep, Pacquiao would also give Floyd a different look and intangibles he hasn't dealt with before, which would show us how good Mayweather really is. They're both nightmares for eachother in certain areas and match up so well which makes it so interesting.

My point was even if Pacquiao was to beat Mayweather, that tells us very little in how a Whitaker/Pacquiao would play out, because they're different.
