The corrupt ****ers running things will never let that happen. I agree that it was originally done for tv scheduling, with the kim fight being a convenient excuse. Nothing in boxings history leads me to believe that there is anyone involved that really gives a **** about the fighters. If there were, there would be a national commission and a union that provides pensions. A touching thought, but misplaced imo. Having an even number of rounds greatly increases the odds of the house walking away with the money via a draw. The Lewis Holyfield draw putting millions in the oddsmakers pockets. Try that hometown cooking with an odd number of rounds and it looks really really baad.
Shorter rounds doesn't neccesarily mean more excitement. There's a plot and story that develops in a long fight. It also demands more from fighters, separating the great from the good. With the more complete, better conditioned, mentally tougher and better boxing IQ coming through in a competive fight. Odd number of rounds sounds good, but the problems is you're eliminating a possible outcome. Draws do happen and on occassion it's the only fair result. Sometimes it's impossible to separate two fighters who neither deserve to lose/win. You can't take that option away from the judges.
yeah due to fatigue but heavyweights dont need to make weight therefore less chance of water loss etc.
..specially when the fighter is dehydrated (below heavy), rounds 13-15 would eventually kill them! even some boxers collapses before 12.
fights at heavyweight being only 5 rounds would be brutal. imagine a prime tyson, a prime frazier, prime tua, a prime holmes, prime ali guys like that going at it. fighting knowin they only got 5 rounds
zab judah would be a boxing god. he would had already been in the hall of fame while still boxing. he would be undefeated.
has anyone thought: theres alotta scoring discrepences now....15 rounds will throw another wrench in an already ****ed up scoring system...
thats why the ufc has 5 rounds for title matches and 3 rounds for regular matches...and you kno they go hard for 5 minutes a piece! guys in the ufc get knocked out in the first 10 seconds of the fight....dudes be tryna get the **** in and out that cage as fast as possible...if boxing was like that action wise...ufc would hav no fan base whatsoever...but since it doesnt and politics play in important matches...ufc and mma is leading the way in combat sports
Most heavyweights these days look exhausted by the seventh, i don't see how 15 rounds would improve the division at all. Unless you like Wladimir Klitschkos jab so much you want to see 3 extra rounds of it.
That's a myth that is continually given life by people with overactive imaginations. It's already been well established that 12-rounders are safer than 15-rounders, simply due to the fact that by this time the body is already exhausted, making it more difficult to block punches as well as the extra 9 minutes adds to the brain being shook after most likely being concussed earlier on. The medical lobby group are slowly chipping away the rounds, until they can get combat sports banned completely. Theres no conspiracy just the natural progression of fighter safety i.e. gloves, 4 ropes, rabbit punches made illegal, standing 8-count...and less rounds (yep, no more 40 and 50 round fights anymore) I'm really amazed how many people still believe in this conspiracy theory. I might investigate this more by flying to area 51 and consulting with Elvis and bigfoot.
