Alvarez - he's a bit younger, he has more natural talent I think and he's large for his weight while Lemieux is pretty small for middleweight still (with tiny little arms). Lemieux has tighter defense and a better trainer though. I like them both. I doubt Lemieux is as limited as people are making him out to be, just we haven't had a chance to see his skills all that much yet. Unlike Alvarez, he actually had a distinguished amateur career.
I also think people are exaggerating Lemieux's "lack of reach". If you watch his fights and compare him to Ayala, Camacho etc, his arms are really not that short. His total wingspan is small mainly because of his frame. His shoulders are narrow and not broad. Actual arm length though looks fairly normal to me.
I have not seen enough of Lemeuix but he does seem to have some pop. However that is not always enough. Its skills that pays the bills and Alvarez has better from the little i have seen of Lemieux.
Lemieux is far more impressive than Alvarez. Lemieux has more power than Alvarez. I'm still not very impressed by Alvarez. I would easily say Lemieux.
Care to explain anything that makes sense other than bashing for no reason? I have yet to see Alvarez dominating the way Lemieux did. Sure he did look impressive on some fights but not every fight. Like the Cotto fight.
He turned pro at 18, as soon as he was legally allowed, but he fought amateur since he was 11 or so and won three Canadian national youth championships.
for those that have not seen all of david lemieuxs fights(including amature), he is actually very technicaly sound, he is a master at the "stick and move", jumping in hitiing a few and then jumping back out and moving....he is very technical.... the reason most of you talk only about his power is simple, you only seen 3 or 4 fights, that last no more than the first round. when he is not ko'ing someone in the first round or 2, you might see he has other skills than just power
