atsch Yeah, clearly Vitali wasn't upset because he got pulled from a hard fought fight for the Heavyweight title. He just staged it so people wouldn't know what a quitter he is. nut:nut I swear to god...you people are ****ed. Just buy a gun, and kill the man if you hate him so ****ing much.
Vitali was emotional and wanted to fight on. My god, Henry Cooper looked like Carrie and he was protesting when the ref stopped the first Clay fight..and it wasn't even for the title. Do you seriously expect Vitali to say ,"Well I'm not surprised your stopping it. He cut me up pretty good, much appreciated."
The cut on his mouth was still bleeding pretty good. Either way they were too dangerous to continue, the fight should have been stopped. I think mentally it was breaking him down too.
Those cuts were bad. Really bad. Whether the bleeding was stopped is immaterial. Those cuts could've been re-opened by punches from Lennox and Vitali could've sustained even more damage. Are you saying that it should not have been stopped? That's madness. It absolutely should have been stopped. They made the right call. On another note, I guess it was only a matter of time until this thread devolved into more stupid "Lennox TKO6 Quitali" and "Vitali KO7 Lennox" bull****. Do you morons know anything other than sloganeering?
I watched this fight again 2wks ago and again, just then, and i swear that cut just gets worse with each viewing. With regards to bleeding in his mouth, it wasnt just a cut inside lip or gum we're talking here. The guy needed a few dozen stitches, and that was before the others on his eye and ****. It musta been red raw
No, but neither did I expect him to act like he was shocked that this was occuring. He had at least 3 rounds to try a put Lewis away and he had to know that after each and every round time was running out. The way he acted you'd have thought this wasn't the case. He seemed like he was almost stunned that it happened. Did you watch his interview? Obviously the one thing he never had during this whole time was a mirror.
This seems to get conveniently overlooked when cuts are mentioned. Vitali fans seem to take the position that there was only one cut that Vitali sustained and it was a lucky one at that, when in fact he had multiple cuts on his face. The one that stopped the fight may have been lucky, but obviously Lewis threw punches which had the ability to cut Vitali on a sustainable basis, that much should be obvious to all who seen the condition Vitali was in when the fight was stopped.
You think if he had a mirror, he would say, "My goshz, Lewis destroyed me. You are all right to stop this fight. All very right. My goshz, I will never model again. I believe I was winning and he was tiring, but diz does not shock me. " Hell, I was surprised the fight was suddenly stopped after being allowed to continue for so long after the decisive cut occured. Everyone was shocked at the timing, especially the guy fighting his heart out for the title. I really don't see why this is so hard to fathom.
I think Souza was doing the best job he could have done given the limited intervals that he had to get to work. It did seem to clear up after the 6th but I don't think it cleared up enough that it wouldn't be a factor in the 7th. Lewis would have likely opened it up again only for the cut to continue to bleed profusely. I just rewatched the fight last night for old times sake and I think that as much as I pulled for Vitaly during that time (more so out of disdain for Lewis) I simply don't think that letting the fight go on longer would have been prudent for the ref, the ringside doctor or his cornermen. At some point it would have been irresponsible. That's not to say that Vitaly was wrong for complaining or reacting the way he did; he clearly put up a gallant effort and anyone in his position would have wanted to continue. And yes Lewis was pretty swollen, but I can't imagine anyone else not being swollen after taking those clean shots Lewis took from Vitaly.
