Load of BS. One of the main things you want to get out of weight training as a boxer is strength, lifting a light weight does **** all for this. How did you come to your conclusion of lifting light weight increases strength? Makes no sense whatsoever. Heavy, explosive compound lifts such as cleans, snatch and power cleans are what should be done.
This debate again.... You do know that olympic sprinters like usain bolt lift weights right? Never understood the "heavy weights will make you slow" argument from some boxers. They have obviously never studied up on this kind of thing.
Wrong. You've clearly never done that circuit, it is a ****ing killer. 3x5 is designed so that it builds neuromuscular coordination instead of damaging the muscles like in a Bodybuilding routine. That circuit will make you sore for days, you won't be training boxing at 100% the same day, and probably not the next day if you're not used to it.
It is incredibly annoying, but has unfortunately been an established part of boxing for longer than we have been alive IGNORANCE IS KING
I've done this workout and its a killer. People seem to be looking into things too much, he doesn't imply much other than a general high intensity circuit routine. Randy said he does it from time to time so it looks to be targeting aspiring fighters looking to stay in overall shape for training. Seems so simple. Naturally higher weight, shorter reps, more movement increase explosive strength and coordination but he wasn't getting into that. Just a simple dump and burn and it will create a nice base strength to work on.
? so your saying lifting weights is going to make you weaker? i really dont understand how doing something with whether it be 2 lbs or 25 lbs more then your used to is going to make you weaker? perhaps you could explain that? are you saying its going to make me slower? or perhaps have less stamina? or perhaps its restricts your range of motion? cant be...havent experienced any of that with my 2 lb weighted exercises. when was the last time you actually had a snap in your punch? before you got strong? while your at it perhaps you can explain why fast twitch muscles are soooooooo much better for boxing then slow twitch muscles......and because fast is in the name dosnt count.
Worlds fastest man (usain bolt) lifts weights. Anyone who argues that it makes you slower is indeed an idiot.
Wow. Before you give advice you need to look at a sports physiology book and understand some basic things.
god....i wish i wouldnt of held back on this in my last post...... how is a 100 meter sprint that takes less then 10 seconds anything like a 3 min round let alone an entire 12 round boxing match?
dont have one, as i assume you do perhaps you can help me out with what i should know? perhaps it will help answer the questions i asked in the post you quoted.
And nobody said it will make you weaker, it just won't do a thing for your strength. By your logic I can get stronger by lifting an orange above my head.
