Agree, I felt that was very evident against Castillo when he closed that distance down, Mayweather relied on his speed to get off first, to land and get himself out of bad spots.
In the lower division floyd moved a lot more, had a consistent jab, put punches together more often, threw body shots. He was a more complete boxer. He's just a potshot artist now, ala a past prime Roy Jones.
You need great defense to be competitive against Floyd. Khan will be Floyd's hardest fight. Amir will keep improving that defense as he is moving towards his prime, and Floyd will be slower in 2012.
Yes. IMO you need to use those head/shoulder feints, have your head in perpetual motion as you roll foward, unless of coarse you have physical advantages, or comparable ones in reach/height, which Khan seems to have.
Name a fighter today as strong, as smart and as fast as Mayweather. Pacquiao? err not as smart as Mayweather. Who else? Highly beatable yet has beaten 15 champions and only once has the decision been remotely controversial. atsch
Do you know what the word "or" means? atsch The De La Hoya fight went to a split decision!! By its very nature, an SD is controversial, because the judges' disagreed. And Floyd's comp has been pretty weak, over the course of his career (certainly since he moved above 135). Saying "15 world champions" doesn't mean much at all in this alphabet era. If you look at them fighter by fighter and situation by situation, Floyd has not fought a wealth of prime A-class fighters, not by a long shot. :smoke
So you think you can beat Floyd with only one of these areas? Sorry but Judah was much faster the Floyd. Several of his opponents have been much stronger. You need the complete package son. *head pat* Name 3 experts who thought Oscar could have got the decision. Name 3 active fighters with a better resume then Floyd Mayweather. Matter fact, name the A class fighters Pacquiao has beaten. Barrera, Marquez, err who else?
you brought up a good point there. mayweather also didnt look that great against dlh in part because dlh was clearly the bigger man. one of the reasons why he never thought about sticking at jr mw.
Bull ****. He was quicker and had more of a killer instinct, but he's better defensively and technically now and he's smarter
I think everybody can agree that Floyd won that fight except *******s and Oscar fans. Punching somebody's elbows isn't effective agression
Castillo and Delahoya probably had around 10lbs each on Mayweather, around the same weight advantage Floyd had over Marquez. Neither JLC/DLH would have been quite as effective with their pressure if it wasn't for that advantage. As it was Mayweather landed the far cleaner punches against both men and was hard for both men to hit 1 good point Gooners makes though is Mayweather can go back in straight lines and stay on the ropes too much, he does use lateral movement at times and turns opponents at times though. He can also wait for his opponent to stop punching before he counters. When his opponents tee off combinations sometimes nothing lands but it can look like it does to the judges/fans. He can also be overly negative not sitting on his punches, taking away some of his advantages.
