BoxScene was advised that former champion Paul Spadafora has parted ways with trainer Pernell Whitaker. Spadafora (44-0, 18KOs) has reunited with former trainer Jesse Reid, who is training him for the scheduled fight with Diego Jesus Ponce at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. Spadafora hired Whitaker last June. Spadafora's promoter, Michael Acri, tells BoxScene that Whitaker has not communicated with them for several weeks.

    DROPS HIM AS A TRAINER.

WOW...OK...I totally misunderstood for a brief moment.

I almost thought that Pea climbed into the ring to spar with him (or that Paul missed badly while working the mitts). Now that would be a hands-on approach to coaching.

Pernell must be frustrated when people he tries to train, are not able to do what he could. That's one of the reason great fighters don't always make great trainers.

If isn't one thing, it's another with the guys Sweetpea trains. Brock loses vision in one eye. Spadafora dumps him for his old mediocre trainer. Julio gets sparked by anyone with pop in their punch. Spivey is a journeyman pretending he's better. Poor Sweetpea.

Yeah that's the only way Spadafora drops Sweetpea even today.

That whole Dorin - Gatti thing forever changed the way I thought about Spadafora's talent.

It's unbelievable to me that Sweet Pea seems a little bit brain damaged when he never took much punishment in his career when guys like Barrera seem fine, guys who have been punished a whole lot.

It has more to do with his hard drug habit. That ruby is a bad mutherf*cker! But i think his "slurring" is overstated, he's not far of how he use to speak in his prime.

I saw Mark Breland and Pernell together once on FNF's and the difference in their speech clearity was massive. And Pea hardly took a punch in his prime. :-(
