It depends if you want to look at which names he fought or which names he had success against. I wouldn't put on my CV 'I studyed at Oxford but I failed in the first year and was told to pack up and leave', same with Evander and Lennox Lewis. Also if it was a career CV, it wouldn't look quite as good if I went to Manchester Uni but only got a 2:2. Many of Holyfields and MAyweathers opponents are Manchester Uni level types, but where as FMJ is scoring First Degree Honours, Holyfield is scraping by with only a 2:1 in their general performance

As for putting wins in perspective, Douglas/Mercer weren't that good especially the version of Douglas that showed up, Qawi was past his best weight and prime aswell as being shorter than Ricky Hatton, Bowe was out of shape (and went 2:1 in the series), Tyson then a ring rusty 5round fighter.

 

Floyd was injured in that fight, the immediate rematch and clear decision proves this.
